Au Petit Chalet is a popular destination known for its cozy atmosphere and generous portions, particularly for breakfast and brunch. Many visitors highlight the variety of the menu, including the famous all-day breakfast options and hearty lunch dishes. While experiences can vary, the majority of diners praise the warm and welcoming service, noting that staff members are often attentive and professional. The restaurant is frequently recommended as an ideal spot for family gatherings or meeting with friends, providing a consistent and pleasant dining experience for many.
Big disappointment. The first impression was nice: it is a beautifully decorated place, everything looks brand new, & we were warmly greeted at the entrance & seated at a table near the window opening onto the terrace. The food was delicious. We ordered omelettes. Then the disappointments started. First, we noticed that the french fries that were supposed to be served with the omelettes, were not there. We did not complain. My husband ordered mushrooms added to his omelette (for the additional fee of $2.49). There were no mushrooms in the omelette when it arrived. The waitress, when informed of it, said there were two options: 1) to remove the mushrooms from the bill, or 2) she would bring them separately. My husband agreed to option 2. It must be noted that when a similar mistake happened at another breakfast restaurant a few years ago, the staff apologized & did not charge us for the missing product, & just brought it when we mentioned the omission.
At the end, my husband paid the bill without checking it (because we are used to the waiters' honesty), but realized a moment later that the amount was strangely high. At this point, we looked at the receipt & saw that in addition to what happened before, the waitress added $4.95 for each order for'fruit/potatoes', while potatoes had not even been served, although they are supposed to be & are included into the price, according to the menu. All this means that my husband paid $9.90 extra + tax + 18% tip for nothing. The waitress, when confronted with the fact, admitted that it was her'mistake' & brought $10 cash. I said that there were also taxes & tips paid on top of everything. Then she reluctantly added a $2 coin. The entire experience was so disappointing that we did not ask for the adjustments (like recalculating the bill, removing the tip, talking to the manager) & left. Quebec City is our favorite getaway, & we go there at least twice a year. I always say that it is an amazing welcoming place. This time, our visit was spoiled by this incident & left a bad aftertaste.
Should the restaurant management/owners or potential customers be interested, the events described above took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Au Petit Chalet, 1326, av. Maguire, Québec, table 25, at around 11 a.m. Bill #234043-1. We saved it for future reference.
Lovely place with great ambience & good service. Very decent portion sizes & I loved that you can get more potatoes if need be(however the first portion serving was more than enough). All meals were tasty & worth it.
This was our second visit, compared to last December's visit, it was quite a contrast . We encountered a very noisy atmosphere with unruly children, a dirty restroom, & despite a reservation for six, you were squeezed around a table meant for four. On top of that, the portion sizes were small, the service was lacking, & the food quality was just okay.
