Café Pékoe centers its culinary identity on the meticulous preparation of handcrafted sandwiches and artisanal sweets within a functional, urban setting. The menu highlights a variety of pressed options featuring fresh breads, cured meats, and locally sourced produce that prioritize flavor balance. Beyond the savory selection, the establishment produces an array of delicate pastries and confectionery items prepared daily to complement their specialty coffee offerings. The interior design emphasizes minimalism, providing a neutral backdrop for patrons to focus entirely on the quality of the ingredients. Each component, from the crumb structure of the house-baked goods to the precise brewing temperatures of the beverages, undergoes strict quality control. This focused approach ensures consistent output for individuals seeking a dependable culinary experience characterized by technical proficiency in the preparation of light meals and sugar-based delicacies.
Café Pékoe is widely celebrated as a cozy and inviting destination in Quebec City, known for its warm atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. Visitors frequently praise the diverse menu, which includes high-quality coffee, a wide variety of premium teas, and popular bubble tea options made with real tea. While the food offerings like the Dragon Salad, various sandwiches, and pastries receive frequent compliments for their taste and freshness, some guests have noted that certain items might not adhere strictly to traditional recipes or could benefit from larger portion sizes. Despite occasional remarks regarding service speed during busy periods or inconsistencies in drink preparation, the overall consensus highlights the establishment as an excellent spot for working, studying, or socializing in a relaxing setting.
Excellent coffee shop in the heart of St-Roch district.
We found this little gem by wandering along St-Joseph street. The atmosphere is relaxed & inviting. Their coffees are deliciously brewed. There's also a very decent selections of premium teas. My daughters LOVED their milk shakes & cookies. It is also dog friendly. Competitive prices for the quality of coffees, 10x better than Starbucks!
Staff bilingual & very courteous.
Highly recommend!
[Update August 2025]: We returned to this place & they delivered again! Coffee good as always & the smoke salmon sandwich made with perfection, every single element was done right: the bagel, the smoked salmon, the cream cheese & capers & onions, just meticulously prepared. Bravo to the team! While it's sad to see the declining retail industry in this neighborhood, I was relieved to see Cafe Pekoe alive & well.
Café with a few vegan options & limited gluten-free options. I had the dragon bol with tofu which is vegan & without the fried wonton it is gluten-free. It was good, but the portion size was small. I think double the quinoa would have been better. My partner had the banh mi with veggie paté & liked it, but it would have been nice if the veggie paté would have been warm. The pastry options offer quite a few vegan options including brownie, financier, two cookies & a berry square. There was also a chocolate energy ball that was vegan & gluten-free. My partner ordered the financier & brownie. The financier was quite good & not too sweet. The brownie was more cake like, but still good. The service was a bit slow. They bring it at the table when you eat in, but it took 10 to 15 min to get our salad & sandwich. For a cafe style take out place, it feels a bit long, but we did come at rush hour & they made every order to serve instead of prepping in advance. The decor was nice, & a lot of places to sit & even a few tables outside. They had an extensive drinks menu which we did not test this time, but it looked quite good.
OPCIONES VEGANAS Y AMBIENTE BOHEMIO!

We asked the lady at the counter what to order, & she was so kind & helpful. She gave us lots of recommendations & explained the different types of bubble teas & how they taste. The place itself was very cute. There's an outdoor seating area that faces a little church, & it gives the whole spot a fun & very French vibe. Inside, the benches & tables were comfy & good for groups.
We didn't try the food, but I saw some sandwiches at another table & in the display case. They looked huge, fresh, & really tasty. The only issue I had was with the temperature inside. It was freezing cold. I asked the lady if they could lower the AC, but she said the whole space is temperature controlled & she couldn't change it. So I ended up moving outside to work. Other than that, everything else about the place was great.
Une magnifique ambiance le personnel est très gentil & leur cuisine délicieuse je vous conseille leur bubble tea ils sont délicieux ce sont réellement les meilleurs que je n'ai jamais bu!!!
I wish I had a place like Cafe Pekoe near my home, as it was such a treat! The staff are great, the food is great, & the shop is unique. I really enjoyed their Dragon Salad & wish I had more time in Quebec just to eat it again, haha. Their Bahn Mi vegetarian pate was also very delicious. My partner enjoyed the bagel he had as well. The staff were great about checking for food allergies with a book they have right by the register.
Also, loved the Canadiano change on the menu ;)
Really good selection of tea here, with a ton of options to choose from. The tea is really nice & high quality. There's a ton of food options. The banh-mi isn't really a banh-mi though, more of a regular sandwich on soft bread with some pickled vegetables. The outdoor seating area is really nice though, & the staff are absolutely fantastic.
