We stopped at Chez Boulay as part of a food tour in Québec City, & the fresh croissant was absolutely incredible-perfectly flaky, buttery, & fresh. It was truly the most delicious croissant I've ever tasted in my life!

I also loved their selection of high-quality prepared foods to take home. They offer frozen, vacuum-sealed meals & ingredients prepared by a chef, including things like carrot soup, lasagna, & delicious sauces. Everything looked wonderful & incredibly convenient.

If I lived in Québec City, this would absolutely be one of my regular stops for high-quality, easy-to-prepare meals & ingredients. A fantastic find & definitely worth a visit!

Having eaten at Chez Boulay the previous night , I was delighted to find out that they have a bakery Chez Boulay Comptoir Boreal .

This is a small bakery meets mini market store that sells baked goods, desserts & pastries (some of which are gluten free) & frozen items . Many products to go through & purchase .

However I was here for the breakfast pastries . The display case was full of treats such as muffins , fruit brioche , swirled praline filled pastry , pinwheel croissants with cranberries , croissants filled with praline & many more .

I got the croissant roll swirl pinwheel topped with sweet cranberries & a local spice called melilot (which essentially is a version of clover ). Unbelievable flavor . The quality of the butter mixed with the cranberry & the sweet almost honey flavored clover of the melilot was incredible.

I also purchased their version of of stuffed croissant with caramelized praline topped with pumpkin seeds . The croissant was flaky on the outside & moist delicious praline on the inside . A real treat & something different from the classic almond stuffed croissant .

Both were truly memorable & outstanding quality products .

My only disappointment & observation was that for a high quality & higher end produce store they did not have a barista or make their own coffee , instead it is a self service coffee machine .

Other than this observation, the bakery store is amazing

Great local store. Staff were super friendly & professional. Croissant were sold out but desserts were fantastic! Beautiful presentation & delicious!! C'est parfait!!

J'ai eu la chance de pouvoir faire un passage au comptoir de chezboulay ! Malheureusement pour moi (& les nombreux clients passant la porte), les étales étaient vides (Heure du midi)! Les pâtisseries restantes étaient libre-service, ce qui m'a laissé perplexe au niveau de l'hygiène, surtout avec la covid (Même si des pinces sont à disposition de la clientèle, elles sont à l'air libre, sans aucune "protection").

L'offre tournée vers le cassis limitait un peu plus mes options (allergies), les croissants à la courge étaient trop grillés (raison pour laquelle je n'ai pas choisi cette pâtisserie, car je suis fan de ces saveurs), mais ce croissant chômeur avait tout pour plaire & séduire mes papilles!

Feuilleté & avec une douce arôme d'érable, on savoure la simplicité qui n'a pas à rougir d'embarassement, car cette pâtisserie est superbe! Juste assez sucré! Petit bémol, son coeur était complètement vide!

Je regrette de ne pas avoir pu mettre la main sur le grand format (& un centre moins...aérien) & de ne pas avoir saisit ma chance de m'offrir un article de la bannière de ce restaurant/comptoir!

Une excuse pour revenir!

Croisons les doigts pour que les étales soient pleines & que ma gourmandise rende le choix aussi déchirants qu'à l'habitude! Vivement mon retour à Québec
