Reviews for Le Montagnais
I recently visited Restaurant Le Montagnais with three friends. We ordered a few beers, a wings combo, four Super Burger combos with poutine, & several desserts. Overall, the food was good, the portions were generous, & the prices were very reasonable. We also really enjoyed the drinks & the general atmosphere of the restaurant.
?My only minor critique of the food is that the burger patties were a bit dry & not warm enough-likely because they sat on the counter for a while before being brought to our table.
?However, the major issue with our visit was the service. Our server, an older gentleman, was quite rude from the start. We initially tried to order the exact same meal for all four of us to keep things simple, but he stopped us & insisted we order individually. We complied & decided to make a few slight modifications to our individual orders. We assumed he just had a specific procedure for taking notes, but when the food arrived, all four meals were identical, & none of our requested modifications had been made. This same dismissive attitude continued when we ordered dessert.
?The most unacceptable part of the experience happened when it was time to pay. Given the poor service, I entered a $10 tip. The server actually canceled the transaction on the card machine & told me to tip more. Feeling pressured, I tried to leave $20, but he persisted & demanded an even higher amount. Extremely annoyed, I ended up paying a $25 tip just to resolve the situation & leave.
?I usually happily tip 15-20% for good service, but tipping should reflect the quality of the experience. A tip is entirely up to the customer's discretion & should never be aggressively demanded. I hope management looks into this behavior, as it really overshadowed what was otherwise a good meal.
