We visited this gem to celebrate my wife's birthday, & the experience was exceptional from start to finish. I had flowers sent in advance, & the staff had them arranged at our table before we arrived, a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening.
The hospitality here is top-tier. One of the co-owners & chef, Jorge, personally came to our table to greet us & walk us through the menu. As someone who has traveled to Mexico many times & truly loves the cuisine, I can confidently say this is some of the best Mexican food I've had in Canada.
The Drinks & Food
Margaritas: We tried both the Tequila & Mezcal versions. Both were excellent, though the Mezcal margarita had a smoky depth that made it the standout.
Appetizers: On the chef's recommendation, we had the **Guacamole** (served in a traditional stone molcajete) & the **Kibis**. Both were fresh & flavorful.
Main Courses: We ordered the **Quesabirria Tacos** & the **Octopus**. Both were phenomenal. Octopus is notoriously difficult to get right, but here it was prepared flawlessly.
Dessert: They treated us to freshly made **Churros with ice cream**, which were the perfect, delicious end to the meal.
Verdict
Even though we live in Quebec City & it was a 70-minute drive each way, it was worth every second of the trip. If you appreciate authentic, high-quality Mexican food, this place is special.
**Pro Tip:** This place is popular for a reason, make sure to book a reservation in advance!

Nous avons été accueilli chaleureusement par Jorge, le co-propriétaires. Il nous a préparé un cocktails, qui est probablement le meilleur que j'ai gouté depuis longtemps.
Sa conjointe, qui nous a servie les plats toute la soirée, étaient tout aussi chaleureuse. Leurs Taco, guacamole & desserts étaient hors de ce monde. C'est n'est pas pour rien que tout les gens du coin nous conseillaient l'endroit. Il faut absolument essayer si vous passez par là!!
Vraiment une expérience culinaire sympathique, surprenante & délicieuse ! Je recommande haut la main ! J'ai choisi deux entrées : Kibis Yukatecos & le Ceviche Negro MIAM ! Mon conjoint les tacos Birria Jalisciense, laissez vos papilles découvrir ce que le Chef a à leurs offrir ! & que dire du service : instructif, joyeux & efficace. I was visiting town for the first time this weekend with my better half, & we were looking for somewhere warm & cozy to celebrate our anniversary. After coming across *Nixtamal* online & reading the reviews, our shared love for Mexican food made it an easy choice-& it absolutely delivered.
From the moment we walked in, despite the place being packed, we were greeted with a genuine smile & a heartfelt welcome from the staff. We had arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation (completely on us!), so we waited briefly until our table was ready. Right on time, we were seated at a clean table with menus in hand-perfectly organized & professional.
The ambiance was exactly what we were hoping for: cozy, quaint, & inviting. The tables are fairly close together, but thanks to thoughtful acoustic treatment on the ceiling, you don't hear surrounding conversations. A small detail, but one that made a big difference-clearly well thought out & well executed.
Service throughout the evening was impeccable. Courteous, friendly, attentive without being overbearing-we never once felt rushed, even as the restaurant filled up again later in the evening.
& then, the food… honestly, five stars don't feel like enough. It's rare that I leave a restaurant feeling both completely satisfied *&* like I got great value for what I paid, but this was definitely one of those times. Every dish was fresh, vibrant, & beautifully presented. The flavors were bold & perfectly balanced-spicy where it needed to be, but never overwhelming. & when something had more heat, we were given a heads-up, which I really appreciated.
For transparency, we ordered the Nachos El Gringo (hands down the best nachos I've ever had), the kibis-served with a bit of history behind them, which was a nice touch-& for mains, the cochinita & birria tacos. Each taco was a soft-shell delight, packed with flavor & cooked to perfection.
All in all, an outstanding experience from start to finish. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in town.
Incredible!!! Delivered on the high reviews. We had the guac, pastor tacos & salad. Everything was delicious (churros are a must!!). The salad was shockingly tasty. Beautiful & authentic dishware too!
Tout est parfait dans ce resto! Les plats sont délicieux, frais, originaux, bien présentés & authentiques. Coup de coeur pour les tacos birria & pescado, la pieuvre, les côtes de maïs & le ceviche d'espadon! Les cocktails nous ont également ravis, notamment la margarita mezcal & le punch. Le service est impeccable, amical & sans prétention. Le local est beau & coloré, belle ambiance, bonne musique & les gens qui y travaillent sont tellement sympathiques. On y retournera c'est certain!
Probablement le meilleur restaurant mexicain que j'ai eu de ma vie! Prenez l'assiette à 2 avec les 4 tacos. C'est beaucoup de nourriture, mais c'est incroyable! 🤩

Les tacos au chorizo étaient juteux, frais & très goûteux. La margarita était excellente, bien équilibrée.
Les entrées sont généreuses & l'ambiance typiquement mexicaine, avec une touche personnalisée, rend l'expérience encore plus agréable.
Une adresse que je recommande sans hésitation.
