If you want undercooked steak with service that makes you feel exploited, this is the place for you.

We dined here on the last night of a weekend getaway. I ordered my steak medium & it was served rare. I cut off a piece & sent the rest back. They clearly just stuck the plate in the oven for a few moments because it came back just as rare as the piece I'd cut off (see photo).

I showed the waiter & told him that I no longer wanted it. He removed it from our bill but no'sorry for that,' no'thank you for coming.' He just took payment (& tip) & walked away without a word.

My wife requested her steak well done & it was overcooked to the point of being chewy & stringy. We didn't even complain about it, but were glad to leave it behind.

Excellent Atmosphere & Service, but the Steak Missed the Mark

We dined at Beffroi Steakhouse in Quebec City with an 8:00 p.m. reservation. Despite the welcoming atmosphere & professional staff, our meals were not served until just after 9:00 p.m. The restaurant was very busy, which likely contributed to the delay.

I ordered the Kanas 16oz steak with puréed Yukon Gold potatoes & vegetables, cooked medium rare with no sauce. Unfortunately, the steak was closer to well done & lacked seasoning or flavour-it was quite bland & chewy. My partner ordered the New York cut with a baked potato & thoroughly enjoyed his meal, so quality may vary depending on the dish.

The staff & overall environment were excellent, & the prices were fair for the area. However, based on my experience, I wouldn't consider Beffroi a true steakhouse. While the service & ambiance stood out, my main course did not meet expectations.

Excellent & surprenant steak mais j'ai eu de la tirasse pour deux ou trois bouchées. Il a fallu recommander notre cocktail car il était manqué.
Service bien dosé mais un peu familier parfois.
Ambiance haut de gamme, relativement tranquille & décoration sobre.

My steak was perfect, the potato & even the bread were amazing. The only hic was the vegetarian pasta of my girlfriend, full of water… the waiter immediately took the situation at hand when we told him & offered everything we could asked for to get satisfied. We would return to this restaurant any moment

Dined here on both nights of staying at the hotel so I can compare both experiences. The first night was better- the receptionist was attentive & friendlier, more welcoming. We had the same server (Montse) both nights. The first night, the receptionist at the first floor was very professional & amicable. She brought us to our seat, smiled, asked how we wanted to start the service. She also went around often along with the server to refill water. My spouse, myself, & kids ordered (2) steak fries, salmon & shrimp, & Boston AAA steak. I liked the salmon & shrimp my husband ordered. He was asked how well he wanted the salmon done. The second night, we walked in as well & made a reservation with the receptionist at the second floor (6:30 pm), who typed my name in the system using just her right middle finger. We dropped by on time regardless because we liked the food the first nifht. She brought us to our seat, nothing else was said, & we didn't see her again after. It was 7:30 pm & she must have been feeling overworked because it shows in the service & the attitude. We ordered 2 salmon & shrimp, my daughter ordered Boston steak & my husband ordered the tuna steak. We were not asked how well we wanted the salmon & tuna done- the salmon was too done & dry, the Boston steak was too well done you wouldn't have mistaken it for a medium. The tuna steak turned out good, fortunately. No one was doing water refills. Compared to the first night where people were attentive, the second night, we only had a refill when we asked as we were going to be paying already & asked for a bill. We asked to take out the untouched baked potato my son ordered. We were given a small container that didn't fit. No bag even to put it in. I mean, I could probably have sliced that to make it fit but at that point they already took away all the utensils. Montse was as friendly as she was the first night though. I tipped better on the first night & thought to myself then that I'd tip better the second night but I ended up tipping just the minimum 15% & still felt like if we had gone out to restaurants outside the hotel that charged less, we would've gotten my money's worth. Dinner here isn't cheap. I don't see this as discrimination though because we're Asian & don't speak French. It's just inconsistent service at a price point that should ensure consistency. Coming back to Quebec City but not coming back to this restaurant. There's lots of other places to eat in.

Although the overall experience was good, I find the steak somewhat blah. It's missing seasoning. I like every bite a bit on a salty side, hence The Keg or even Montanas has that ahhh experience. That's how I prefer my steak however, others might defer. I do recommend this restaurant.

On our first night we decided not to go out from the hotel after a 9.5 hr drive & just stay in & use the amenities. Hot tub & swim then Dejeuner! We both chose a drink & the Beffroi special 35 day sirloin & frites. She had the Caesar & I had a G&T with Tanquery. The steaks were medium & mine 12oz medium rare. Perfection. The staff were a fantastic team. Great energy & personalities. Kind & attentive. BRAVO!
