This café has multiple outlets but the one at Place Royale offers an amazing view if you're lucky enough to grab a window seat. Despite being a very busy café, the service was excellent. The food was decent overall - I wasn't particularly impressed with the boule framboises & chocolate, chocolate & almond croissant, or the hot chocolate. However, thoroughly enjoyed the date square, pecan pie, carrot cake, & macarons. During the holidays, it can be challenging to find a seat, but if you manage to snag one by the window, it's well worth it. Can go back only for the view.
It's a cute little cafe with some tables. Definitely a good spot to recharge & get something warm to drink when exploring the area in the winter. The service could be better though. The woman who took my order was unfriendly & so was the barista. They were polite to the people before me & after me, who spoke French. I didn't leave a tip.
Absolutely delicious croissants & great lattes. It's very small so get there early
J'adore prendre mon café là, l'équipe est génial & chaleureuse & la place en vaut vraiment la peine
Café La Maison Smith was absolutely charming-I enjoyed it so much that I visited twice during my trip. The maple & pistachio lattes were delightful, & our group tried a variety of drinks, including coffee, hot chocolate, & tea, with plenty of dairy-free options available. While the treats were hit or miss in a city with so many good bakeries, the beverages & the cozy, picturesque location were the true highlights.
We came in & their credit card system was down. We waited for 15 minutes before they allowed us to pay cash. We only had USD. We handed her $40 USD, ($56 CAD) the total was $28 CAD. We received $12 CAD as change. This means we over paid them by $16 CAD. They did not want to give us back the correct change accounting for the exchange rate, which is a bit silly considering we originally tried to pay with a card before their system went down. We had to argue to get the correct change & we still overpaid by a couple of dollars. The macarons are delicious, & my London fog is one of the best I've had. BUT the unwillingness to accommodate us when their system was down was not the best customer service.
if you are at Royale Place, you must have coffee here. sitting outside, having coffee or a croissant, viewing the oldest church in North America, & feeling like you went back by at least 100 years... what a feeling. This location is a must for having a coffee during a romantic walk in Petit Champlain. You can sit on the terrace in the heart of Place-Royale, where Quebec City was founded. We ordered a pistachio Donut, Crepe, & coffee. Man, this donut- nothing I ever had... too good. I ordered more to have it for dessert after dinner. This casual & attractive café right on the corner of scenic Place Royale is a great place to stop for an afternoon pick-me-up, be it coffee or various indulgent sweets. For a light lunch, there are yummy sandwiches, quiches, & soups. There are other branches elsewhere in the city that are just as good, just not as scenic as this.
