In full transparency, I'd like to start with explaining we've come to this place before & loved it & gave them 5 stars.
This time we returned & had a very unfortunate incident with the server that has left us severely unsatisfied & incredibly annoyed:
There were 3 of us -2 of us ordered what we wanted, then when the 3rd person ordered the VEAL our server said they were out of the veal. He had to scramble to find something else & ended up ordering a steak (her recommendation).
Less than 20 minutes after we started eating, we overheard the next table order the veal & the order was successfully accepted! 🤨🤔 We called our server over to ask why the next table was able to order the veal & she told us she thought the veal was sold out but that 5 minutes after she told us it was sold out, she was informed it was available. However she never came to tell us that. She did not appear to think this was a big deal when she explained, only giving a light, flippant'sorry' when we looked displeased with her response.
It's one thing if the veal was made available after we received our food & ate it, but by her own admission it was only FIVE MINUTES & she could've told us so he can switch his order.
Now, we will admit - we generally did love our experience LAST TIME we were here. & to give a very honest review of the food this time, I loved my food, the 2nd person liked his food, & the 3rd person did not like his food. But the server's choice to not inform us as soon as she found out really left a sour taste in the experience.
When the bill came, we did not wish to tip much. When she saw her tip was low, she asked if there was a problem. So I informed her if she found out only 5 minutes later, she could've come back to tell us. She said'I understand.'
Came for lunch as we missed brunch time. This location was a bit cozier (crowded) than the Rue St Jean location which is larger & more spacious.
But our food & service was better at this location. We had come to this location earlier intending to have brunch & was disappointed. We had the open face roast chicken sandwich & steak sandwich. They were ok but we've had better elsewhere.
We were clearly provided an anglophone server to assist us.
He was very friendly & welcoming & tried to help us with the menu.
The decor was a bit more European as well as the table placement. North Americans may prefer the St Jean (we mistakenly tried again to get brunch but was very disappointed at this location). The St Jean location was roomier (tall ceilings & spaciousness), but this location had fresher food & friendlier staff.

Food exceeded our expectations! We arrived a little late for the breakfast menu, which ends at 11:15 on weekdays, so we had the ribs & the steak. Everything was tasty & well prepared.
After a long day of exploration, Cochon Dingue is the perfect place for a delicious dinner & drinks! Upon arrival, my girlfriend & I are greeted by the friendly staff. Although it's a busy, packed Saturday night, we are able to get seats by the bar. After we are seated, we order some mocktails to kick things off. The La Passion is pretty refreshing & just the right amount of sweetness. As for the Spritz Zero, it's what I expect. It's citrus & sweet, yet refreshing to keep me going for more drinks! My girlfriend order a set meal with Seafood Bisque, Grilled Rainbow Trout Filet, & a Vanilla Creme Brulee while I order a Grilled Marinated Milk-Fed Veal Flank Steak. Both of us share the food, & overall it's delicious! The veal flank steak is tender, & the Dingue sauce (never had it before) is the perfect blend. The Seafood Bisque is decent. Personally, I think more seafood can be used! To top off the meal, the Vanilla Creme Brulee is fantastically made. It's smooth, not too sweet, & torched perfectly. Couple that with an order of Espresso Martini, & it's a fine dessert & drink! Overall, it's a comfortable dining experience & I have to give special thanks to David, our server. He's super nice, attentive, & helpful with the menu suggestions! Food is amazing, & it's definitely a place I recommend when visiting Quebec City.
**Disappointed at Cochon Dingue - A Review** Join me as I share my recent dining experience at Cochon Dingue in Quebec City, which unfortunately did not live up to the hype. From good service but unseasoned bland food & high prices I dive into what went wrong during my visit. Despite the restaurant's charming Parisian-inspired ambiance & its promise of a lively Quebecois spirit, my encounter was less than satisfactory to say the least, steak was more expensive & poor quality fries limp soggy , nothing was seasoned & after spending 181$ I regret the whole evening They ran out of creme brulee so we had to split the last one although alternatives were offered we were so dissapointed in the quality & taste this night that we declined At least the service & wine was decent so for that it gets the lowest review I have given to date 2/5 stars Full video review to come out shortly
Merci!
