L'entrecôte Saint-Jean offers a classic French bistro experience in the heart of Old Quebec, well known for its signature steak frites served with a flavorful, secret sauce.
The main dish suggested by the restaurant is stake with fries, with soup & salad as entrée.
I think the this restaurant is a scam 😅! The meat was not fresh, probably frozen cheap meat that they buy in very large portions & store for some time in their kitchen. The stake was cold, not tasty. The fries was overcooked. The dessert which is called profiterole au chocolat is a very typical French Gateaux which they bought from a bakery 😅. If you order the 9 once stake they charge you for about $56 with tax which does not worth at all.
I went to L'Entrecôte with my family & we had a really enjoyable experience.
We started with the salad. It wasn't the best salad I've ever had, but it was fresh & quite good. Next, I tried the tomato soup. It tasted very similar to tomato sauce, which I really like.
For my main course, I had the steak, & it was absolutely superb. It was cooked perfectly! My daughters ordered pasta from the kids' menu, & they both liked it. Their only comment was that the pasta was a little stringy.
For dessert, we had the profiteroles, & they were absolutely incredible. You get two profiteroles served on a generous bed of hot chocolate sauce, & they are 100% worth ordering.
I'm giving L'Entrecôte 4 stars instead of 5 because, while everything was very good, it wasn't the best meal I've ever had. That said, I would definitely recommend it & would happily return.
Ate here just today as arranged by Taipan tours. Soup was salty, Steak was bland & dessert was so-so. My husband ate salmon, nothing special about it. If you're with Taipan tours better to skip this French Dinner. I think there are better Restaurants nearby & lot's of other choices really.
We recently had two perfectly medium rare steaks with fries, soups & profiteroles at around 8pm on a Monday night. The whole meal was excellent. The servers were gracious, especially as we had missed the shift to daylight saving time, & patient with my hard of hearing self. I have been to this restaurant many times over the years & it has always been a pleasure!
I came here on a Sunday evening to treat myself to a nice meal while visiting the city, & left impressed not only by the food but the service as well. I ordered the steak'table d'hôte' which included a soup, salad & dessert. The soup of the day was a cream of vegetable, it had a very rich taste & velvety texture. Then came their green salad with walnuts. The lettuce leaves were so fresh & buttery, & the walnuts were firm & fresh tasting. The dressing complemented it perfectly. However, the clear star of the show was the steak. It was juicy & perfectly seasoned, & the sauce was the perfect accompaniment for the steak & fries as it brought everything together. To finish off my meal, I upgraded my dessert to a crème brûlée (it's my favorite dessert - I just couldn't resist) & it was divine. I heard that perfect'crack' when I hit the top of the dessert with the back of my spoon. It was exactly what I expected it to be. The young man who was serving me was extremely polite & kind & gladly accomodated my requests.
To summarize, for the price you will get a high quality meal in a nice setting paired with attentive service.
Highly recommended.
