In the heart of Old Québec, Bar Artefact brings together signature cocktails and light sharing plates, in a décor where every object tells a story. Saturdays and Sundays, from 2 to 4 pm, enjoy our tea time: an assortment of sweet and savory bites.
Offering a glimpse into Quebec’s past, Bar Artefact is the perfect place for enjoying a light meal and signature drinks from one of the city’s most creative cocktail menus, while surrounded by artefacts preserved in time. The bar showcases relics unearthed on site during a recent excavation dig, such as the Dauphine Battery and window displays filled with objects dating back from six distinct eras in our property’s history.
Bar Artefact is widely recognized as a hidden gem that offers a memorable experience through its refined atmosphere and attentive service. Guests frequently praise the high quality of the afternoon tea service, noting the creative infusion of local flavors and the comfort of the beautiful, historic setting. The live piano music frequently enhances the mood, creating a welcoming and sophisticated environment for cocktails or a delicious meal. While individual impressions of the culinary offerings vary, many patrons highlight the freshness of the dishes, the excellence of the martinis, and the warm, professional nature of the staff, making it a standout destination for both casual visits and special occasions.
This is a hidden gem. I looked hard to find this afternoon tea in Old Quebec. We have done the chateau Frontenac afternoon tea twice now & think this afternoon tea is much better at Bar Artefac at almost half the
cost of Chateau Frontenac Dufferin Terrace. You also have the choice of substituting coffee drinks or hot chocolate for tea. The afternoon tea doesn't hold straight laced to an British afternoon tea but rather they have made small changes for the better. Well done.
My family attended afternoon tea here while traveling, & as avid tea drinkers, we always try to enjoy an afternoon tea whenever we visit a new city.
Let me start with the highlights. The tea itself was excellent. The quality was outstanding, & I loved that each person could try two different varieties. The atmosphere was lovely as well. The seating was comfortable, the bar was beautiful, & a live musician performed during part of the service, which added a wonderful touch to the experience.
The service was probably the standout for us. Our server was warm, friendly, & incredibly helpful. We ended up chatting with them quite a bit, & they made the afternoon feel welcoming & relaxed.
The only reason I couldn't give five stars was the food. Nothing was bad, & everything was beautifully presented, but many of the items felt a bit understated in flavor. The scones were very simple with whipped cream, the sandwiches seemed like they could have benefited from a little more seasoning, herbs, or brightness, & while the desserts were gorgeous, their flavors didn't quite match their visual impact.
That said, I fully admit I have high standards when it comes to food & love discovering creative flavors. At $45 per person, I was hoping for a few more memorable bites that would surprise me. The overall experience was still enjoyable.
Super service & nourriture incroyable!

We are staying at the hotel & have had drinks & dinner at the restaurant. Drinks at the bar were great with excellent service.
Dinner however was quite a different experience. The service was very slow. Food was not timed well as we received our starter & then immediately after the main. We waited such a long time for water, refilling our drinks & subsequent courses. Additionally the thanksgiving dinner was not seasoned well & not served with the described items.
The lasagne was very good although a small portion.
I am not sure the restaurant reflects the accolades of the hotel.
We were so excited for this place since it had great reviews & was at Relais & Chateaux property. They seated us in this lovely little corner next to a fireplace, but then forgot us basically. After about 45 minutes I went to find someone to take our drink order. After a while they brought us a cocktail & nothing else for basically an hour. Finally after about an hour & 15 minutes & after 3 different servers peaked around the corner looking at our table wondering why we were sitting there one of them came up to us & took our order & brought some water. Then another 45ish minutes go by & still no food & finally another waitress comes up to us & apologizes saying the food was on the way & that they had miscommunications about who was serving us. She quickly brings us a charcuterie platter & a complimentary glass of red wine she asked if we wanted dessert when we haven't even had our entree, just complete confusion at this place at all levels. No one there seemed to have any idea what was going on. We finally got our food about 2 hours after we got there. I will say our cocktail, the wine, & the food was excellent. The service was very subpar. Alyssa did her absolute best to salvage it after she found out what was happening & she is the sole reason that the restaurant is getting 3 stars & service 2 stars. She even provided us with a cool spot to go to for an after dinner drink. We thank her for the great service & hospitality, but everyone else there needs to get their act together. We always look for the Relais & Chateaux symbol because it's normally a standard of excellence no matter where in the world you are. Bar Artefact doesn't meet that standard based on our visit.
Went for afternoon tea to try something different. Food was good but the service wasn't as good. We are not tea drinker & we were asking the server to help us pick the best tea based on our preference & they honestly had no clue; they were just reading us the menu. Then the tea arrived & they didn't tell us how many minutes we had to wait before drinking it. The teas were not really good; but that might just be because we pretty much ended up picking them up randomly since server failed to make recommendations. It was $45 per person. Which would have been OK if the teas were good.
Great place to spend an evening. Excellent service & good food. Loved the warm milk bread & beetroot salad. Their wine & drinks selection is great & if you are not sure, the friendly staff can make great suggestions.
Beautiful space. We were seated by a roaring fire on extremely comfortable seats. The staff were very helpful & friendly & the service, food & drink excellent!
