About

My wife, daughter & I arrived for our 8:30pm reservation & seated along with two other groups who reserved at the same time. Our waiter was friendly, personable, & passionate about the food being served. To say the food here was delicious is an understatement. We ordered 9 of 12 dishes from their seasonal menu & everything was excellent!! The chef & his team know their flavours & how to coax the best from all the local ingredients they use in every dish. Each course was well-thought out-prepared & layered with complex flavours. It's rare that you find a place where every dish is both unique & tasty. The two other tables seated at the same time, were also in agreement. A foodie from Toronto said..." the food in Toronto is not as good as this!" I said, ..." unfortunately I will have to agree with you... the food in Vancouver is not as good as this (generally speaking). My wife & daughter who are not octopus nor beef tartare eaters, they loved those dishes- a surprise for me. I said I would come back tomorrow to order several dishes all over again, if only they were open for lunch! As I write this, I would easily reorder the: scallops n smoked clams tartare, octopus, amazing homemade pasta with perfect poached egg & carmalized goat cheese, & their smoky layered black pudding, although every dish we had was good. The tasting dishes are still very substantial & certainly worth more than what one is paying here compared to other fine dining places & I think they need to charge more for the time, energy, & detail that goes into every dish!
One needs to make a reservation , the waiter said they turned away so many requests that day because they are a small restaurant.
We loved the rustic laid back decor & the non-nouvelle -pretenciousness of other places without true substance nor the heart. of Chez Rioux & Pettigrew.
I give CRP a big satisfying recommend, we will return again, from Vancouve

Our experience at Chez Rieux & Pettigrew was perfection from even before we stepped into the restaurant. We were running late for our reservation & when we called ahead to see if we could move the time later, the staff graciously tried to accommodate us & allowed us to change to a 9pm seating during a very busy evening.

When we arrived & waited till be seated we were charmed by the vintage decor & romantic lighting. However, were taken aback a bit when we were led to our seats to a small room in the back of the restaurant by the open kitchen! Little did we know, though, that the private nook of 3 tables with vintage furniture seating, surrounded by old radios & antique decor would enable us to have an intimate window into the makings of every delectable dish we selected- something that no one in the front of the restaurant was privy to. It felt like our little prized secret. Our waiter took the time to explain every dish with detail (in English!), make recommendations, & ensured we were well looked after multiple times. But more importantly, he engaged us in the total experience & made us feel at home. We witnessed how each of the staff, from head chef to service staff, valued & respected the craftsmanship & attention to detail that went into each dish that was prepared.

This was a treat & I can easily say is the most memorable & cherished dinish experience I have ever had. Rieux & Pettigrew had none of the pretentiousness & all of the charm. Every bite of the dishes my bf & I shared was divine & the flavors intricately crafted. I personally loved the oysters, the beef tartare, & the chocolate dessert with olive tapenade.

For a very special night out, Rieux & Pettigrew will not just not disappoint- it will exceed expectations. Get the little table in the back & immerse yourself in the total experience.

Excellent service , courtois efficace.
