Le 160, rue Saint-Paul s’est toujours avéré un lieu où les ingrédients et le service de qualité supérieurs font la loi. Fondé en 1860 par Narcisse Rioux, le magasin général Chez Rioux & Pettigrew fournissait aux restaurateurs, aux épiciers, aux hôpitaux et aux communautés religieuses une grande variété de produits locaux ou d’importation.

Barils de mélasse, poches de farine, sucre, gruau, fruits et légumes en conserves, épices, noix, raisins secs, chocolat, bonbons présentés sur des étalages… On y trouvait même de l’alcool jusqu’à la création de la Commission des liqueurs en 1921!

Excellente cuisine, mais offre de plats un peu moins intéressante qu'à l'ordinaire. C'était notre huitième visite. Les huîtres sont impeccables. Les plats sont un peu chers pour ce qui est offert & la grosseur des portions, mais les goûts sont au rendez-vous. Les sièges étaient peu confortables & le panneau qui préserve l'intimité passait son temps à me heurter dès que ma voisine de table bougeait.

Food, drinks, service was all wonderful. Wife & I did the 4 course tasting menu & got drinks. If there was a complaint, the restaurant was too warm. Not sure if the ac wasn't working properly but it still didn't take away from the great evening of dining & ambiance.

Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner. The food was first rate. What kept us from giving our experience 5 stars was the service. Our waiter — who was as nice & accommodating as could be — was covering way too large the floor. We had a minor issue with our cocktails (my wife didn't care for hers) but had to wait 25 minutes before our waiter checked in us & was able to swiftly resolve the issue. The rest of the evening was similar. Longer than necessary waits between servings. Both my wife & I agree, had the service been a but more prompt, we would easily have given our experience a perfect score.

BTW - the cold lobster dish (forgot the name) was one of the best things we've ever tasted.

The menu was unconstructed & impossible to read & understand what was offered. Portions were small but beautifully decorated. Prices are high & atmosphere pretentious. Restaurant wants to be a Michelin star establishment. Left place hungry. Best item on the menu was the bread at $8 a portion.
