Iru Izakaya offers a vibrant Japanese-inspired dining experience that many patrons find memorable, frequently highlighting the warm atmosphere, beautiful decor, and high-quality sharing platters like the ribs, takoyaki, and karaage. While many guests praise the attentive, professional service and creative cocktail menu, opinions on the food remain mixed, with some diners celebrating the authentic and balanced flavors while others find certain main dishes, such as ramen or fried rice, to be lacking in consistency or value. The restaurant is generally viewed as a great spot for celebrations or group outings, though some visitors note that the volume can occasionally be quite high and that the pricing may feel steep for the portion sizes provided. Overall, the majority of customers appreciate the unique culinary journey and plan to return, suggesting that while the experience can vary, the restaurant remains a popular destination in Quebec.
Wow.
Honestly, I am so disappointed. I had high expectations for the food. The atmosphere is good, I think they put a lot of effort into the decoration of the restaurant, but very little into the dishes. The meals were bland, the beef ramen tasted nothing, the side dishes were very basic for the price. Unfortunately, I will not return.
I'm very disappointed with my first visit at Iru. I ordered a drink, a miso soup, 2 appetizers & a ramen. I informed the staff of a mushroom allergy I have. First the server tells me that the miso paste has mushrooms & I ask not to add mushrooms & I'll be ok. He proceeds to convince me that miso is a mushroom based recipe. I told him that he's probably mistaking Koji for mushroom which it is not. It is a fungi, but not all fungis are mushrooms, it's a common mistake that people make. So he says he's still not comfortable serving me the soup. I asked him to just forget the soup. I then receive my appetizers, had the karaage & the yakiniku which were average at best. After I finished the appetizers, I waited for 15-20 minutes before the server tells me that they can't serve me the ramen as it has the miso in it. So I get annoyed & I ask for the bill. There are 2 issues here, first, it's worrying that a chef doesn't know the difference between mold & mushrooms, secondly is that I've been seated for 45 minutes & had finished my appetizers 15-20 min ago before they decide to tell me that I need to choose another main. The only redeeming factor is that my server was actually nice & welcoming.
Service & nourriture incroyable!
I live in Montreal & came to Quebec City for a Christmas trip. I have been to Iru Izakaya in Brossard before, so I went here without a doubt. The staff was very nice, & the lighting & music volume were just right. The restrooms were also in good condition. The food was a little salty, but delicious, & it was a dinner that satisfied everyone.
