About

Le Cochon Dingue functions as a quintessential Quebecois institution, celebrated for its robust menu featuring signature slow-cooked pork ribs and classic French-inspired bistro fare. The kitchen maintains a strong focus on high-quality ingredients, notably seen in its famous maple-glazed ribs and traditional poutine variations that satisfy heartier cravings. Diners encounter a bustling, rustic interior characterized by wooden accents and a lively, social atmosphere that defines the brand identity. The menu selection encompasses a range of traditional dishes including onion soup, steak frites, and an extensive assortment of house-made desserts. This establishment delivers consistent culinary results across its multiple locations, grounding its reputation in authentic flavors rather than modern culinary experimentation. Every plate emphasizes generous portions and traditional techniques, cementing its status as a reliable destination for those seeking substantial, comfort-oriented meals within a relaxed and unpretentious environment.

Review Summary

Le Cochon Dingue is widely praised by visitors for its delicious food, particularly the pork dishes, ribs, and breakfast options like eggs benedict and crepes. Many diners appreciate the efficient, friendly service and the lively, cozy atmosphere that makes it a popular stop in Quebec City. While the vast majority of experiences are positive and highlight the restaurant as a staple for both tourists and locals, a small number of guests have encountered issues with inconsistent food temperatures, occasional service lapses during busy periods, or specific experiences with staff interactions. Overall, the establishment remains a highly recommended destination for its generous portions, diverse menu, and ability to accommodate groups, providing a consistent and memorable dining experience for those exploring the area.

Unpleasant tourist food. Gloppy eggs, fruit cups looked a week old, burnt coffee. It's one of the few spots open for breakfast before 8 but you're much better off doing a cafe for coffee & croissant. Lesson learned the hard way. One star added for the fruit smoothie sample that actually tasted good.

The service is really efficient & the employees are really kind & take the time to explain the menu if needed.
Their apple butter spread is to die for! Please try it!!!

We came in for dinner, few adults & kids & also came back for breakfast on a different day

The atmosphere is very cozy
The service is super quick & the staff are very nice

There were kid friendly menu options that the kids seem to enjoy very much

Dinner 4/5
I ordered
Beef tartare which was fresh & well seasoned, also comes in a nice size portion

Ceaser salad with grilled chicken - the salad itself was nice ,I was a bit thrown off by the fact that the chicken was cold though but that might be just my personal preference

Washed it all down with the Bloody mary ( it has a different name on the menu but for the life of me I can't remember)- the cocktail comes with this bacon wrapped sosage that was very yummy , the tomato blend is tasty but was a bit light on the alcohol portion in my opinion

Breakfast/Brunch 5/5
We ordered different combos & everyone enjoyed everything!
I ordered
Eggs Benedict with duck confie , side of crispy bacon, side of crape & a Berry smoothie
The crape was delicious as is ,no need to even put maple on it
The eggs- perfectly made & I like that you can order 1 or 2 eggs. This allowed me to be able to taste more sides because ordered 1 egg.
The apple butter is delicious
The smoothie was super fresh as well
Very recommend for brunck/breakfast.Have some patiance, gets very bussy in the morning

Came here for breakfast & ordered the Eggs Benedict. The food was decent - not exceptional, but satisfying. Service was good & attentive, & the restaurant was clean & well maintained. Its downtown location makes it very easy to get to, especially if you're staying nearby, & it's nice that they have multiple locations around the city. If you're visiting for breakfast, I'd highly recommend trying the French toast.

Great breakfast. They have some gluten-free items on their menu for my son, who is a picky eater. He had their GF toast & scrambled eggs.

Very disappointed with our experience! When we came to QC last, I remembered having a good experience here & this was the first place I wanted to come back to when we returned to QC & wish we left the original memory of Cochon Dingue in the memory banks.
Sadly, we liked the ambiance better than the food & service. Food was adequate, but did not taste fresh. Had the duck confit benedict & this is one of the worst. The sauce was not warm; nor was the egg or duck. The potatoes were the best part & partly because they were hot-ish. The food seemed like it was cooked in batches & assembled when ordered w/o reheating.
Our server was so fake & unwelcoming. She spoke to us in what she thought was a friendly manner, but it came off as fake & condescending. We think she thought was good at acting to appease, but she lacked skills to be inviting.
She never checked on our food only when she dropped it off & when we noticed there was no ketchup (which she took as part of the order), we did not see her for quite a while (over 5 mins) so we asked another server as the place was almost dead & servers were all bunched together & chatting & we wanted to start eating.
Our server magically re-appeared when we were asking another server for ketchup (politely), she made a grandiose gesture & started to speak in French that it was such a calamity that it was forgotten (clearly thinking we could not speak French). After this she disappeared again for over 10-15 mins & we had to ask for coffee from a different server.
It was all offensive & our server never came back to check on things again till she presented the bill & waited for the tip. She clearly did not get a good tip.
The rest of what we would have tipped was given to the very warm & friendly host/barista who had sat us & end up making us the coffee we asked for.
Side note - when we were leaving, our server was assisting the Francophone couple beside us in a friendly & animated tone. So it wasn't just a bad day for her. She choose to be lazy & unkind. The only reason for an extra star was because of the host/barista that we had dealings with at almost the end of the meal. Kudos to him!

Food was pretty weak for the cost. Everything arrived cold from coffee to food. I ordered the healthy breakfast & it was 20 dollars for 1 poached egg on an English muffin, a small amount of cottage cheese & a meager amount of fruit. Some of the dishes our group ordered were tasty (the country duo wasn't bad), but everything was cold & in general we were pretty underwhelmed. It's a huge place, though, so if you need to get into somewhere with a hearty breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning, you'll likely be able to get in pretty quickly.
