This restaurant was recommended to us by our neighbors who visited QC a few years back (BC...before Covid) & raved about the service, the food, & overall ambiance. Since this was our last night at Le Chateau Frontenac (& my wife's birthday), I made a reservation (close to a year ago) to celebrate her special day. We took the funicular down to the lower part of QC & strolled to Bistro L'Orygine. We were greeted at the reception desk by the owner himself &, since it was quite hot, we opted for an inside table. He told us a bit about the history of the restaurant & made us feel at home.
We started out with a glass of champagne for my wife & I went with an expertly prepared dry Ketel One Martini (up with a twist). We then ordered a dozen grilled oysters (with their own Rockefeller style flair)...simply divine, For the main course, my wife went with their lobster/cavatelli dish & I ordered the duck breast / kimchi plate. Both dishes were out of this world. The owner, bartender, & waitstaff made for a most memorable dining experience which ended our stay in beautiful Quebec City on a very high note. Merci Beaucoup!
Very good restaurant. The staff are great - very knowledgeable & welcoming. The tater menu was amazing with the standard wine pairing. The attention to detail in the dishes is fantastic. An overall fantastic experience.

Excellent food & service! We had the vegan discovery menu & it was wonderful, so many unique dishes & flavors. We left full & happy. The ambience & service were also top notch!
The food was a lovely experience - we sat at the bar & had the vegetarian dishes. The bartender who served was helpful & attentive. It was my husband's birthday & the evening was going so well - then, the fellow who brought the bill for payment was unnecessarily brusque. He obviously wanted to hurry me through the process - my husband was angry & disappointed.
Seated promptly. Service was attentive. The room was a pleasure to the eye with local paintings of vibrant colors. The tasting menu was flavorful & beautifully presented. Kale & lentil fritters...cold vegetable soup...beef gravlax with root vegetables...halibut with bok choy & cannellini beans...roasted piglet with Brussels sprouts & corn. All very delicious. The final dish, the dessert...was the only disappointing, flavorless. I would recommend this restaurant because of the first five dishes & ambiance
Wonderful experience at Bistro L'Orygine. Everything is locally sourced, making the already amazing dishes even more impressive, considering the constraints on what can be obtained locally. Staffs are very nice & are always happy to made your experience enjoyable.
Wonderful meal outside on the patio of this great restaurant. The service was excellent & the food was innovative & delicious. We liked the wine paring. Our children had the mocktail paring, & that had three really good drinks & two duds (which tasted similar to each other). One child got the vegan option, & that was disappointing. They tried to do vegan version of the meat dishes instead of just having vegan dishes. They were not great, & the cost was the same as for the meat dishes. So that was not great. We really enjoyed everything else a lot.
Lovely experience & lovely meal. Seated outdoors, the deck is gorgeous. We ordered the Discovery menu (vegan). They also have a meat Discovery menu & we were able to see that it included piglet loin, venison & halibut.
Our vegan 5 course offering was wonderful. All veggies locally grown. It was complicated & surprising. My son (a vegetarian) loved it.
It is an $85/person meal. It is priced fairly for the complicated & wonderful dishes.
