Situated in the Port-Royal Hotel in the heart of the Old Port of Quebec City, Louise Taverne & Bar à Vin offers a unique experience. Our engaged and passionate team welcome guests in our warm and festive ambiance where we offer, at a reasonable price, a gourmet, flavourful and well sourced menu, exceptional and friendly service as well as one of the best selections of privately imported wines, cocktails and local beers from Quebec. Louise's interior design was conceived of by LemayMichaud, one of Canada's best architecture firms. Our terrace, with more than 100 seats, is bathed in sun during the summer months.

Our gourmet tavern and wine bar brings together two innovative restaurant concepts, which set Louise apart thanks to several factors. On the Taverne side, we were inspired by many of Europe’s gourmet taverns. Clients have the possibility to come and enjoy a comforting, flavourful meal in our warm and inviting environment. On the Bar à vin side, we offer a convivial ambiance to savor beers, wines and cocktails all while enjoying amuse-bouches, appetizers from our raw bar, a selection of salads, charcuteries, oysters, homemade pasta and risotto. Our guests can enjoy a unique experience in either or both the Taverne or Bar à vin sides when visiting us. It is possible at the Taverne and Bar à vin to simply enjoy a drink, appetizers or amuse-bouche or have a full meal.

Chef Nikolas Couture's Table

For those looking to reserve our chef's table in Louise Taverne's kitchen, we offer a unique experience for groups of 10 guests or less. Having worked in many of Quebec City's renowned restaurants such as Le Saint-Amour and Toast, Nikolas is very welcoming, friendly and rigorous in his culinary work. When eating at our butcher block-style table, Chef Nikolas offers guests a meal to share.

Menus, market fresh arrivals and our specialities

On the Taverne side we offer a wide variety of appetizers and main courses from our menu which changes according to the season. Our menu is inspired by the classics of well-known gourmet taverns around the world. You can taste our homemade charcuteries, tartares, bone marrow, whole fish, fish 'n chips, burgers, rabbit, braised beef cheek, lamb and vegetarian appetizers and mains. This menu is complemented every evening by our daily specials: oysters, appetizers, mains to share (fish, seafood, meat) foie gras and truffles. We also offer succulent appetizer and main options for vegetarians and vegans, as well as delicious options of children.

On the Bar à vin side, we propose many snacks, salads and raw appetizers from our menu. Our menu is inspired by some of the most popular wine bars around the world. Our guests can try our homemade hot dogs, tostadas, salads, tartares, ceviches, tataki, sashimi, carpaccio as well as vegetarian appetizers and mains. This menu is complemented every evening by our daily specials: oysters, appetizers, charcuteries, homemade pasta, risotto.

J'ai choisi un tartare - sensée être une spécialité- c'est écrit tartare sur le devant... tartare de boeuf correct, manque de saveur & non relevé. Le service du bar était très bien l'accueil ordinaire. On m'a placé coincée entre les assaisonnements du bar prétextant des places réservées... je suis restée seule au bar l'heure & demi où je m'y suis assise. L'endroit est beau typique du vieux Québec. Belle clientele beaux choix de vins au verre. Malheureusement rien d'exceptionnel

This is our second visit here ( first in July 2023) & we enjoyed our meal so much we wanted to return. We were not disappointed. The welcoming ambiance, the friendly wait staff & our dinner was just superb. We will be returning again for the beef tartare & Maui Maui special.

Nous avons passé une superbe soirée. La majorité de notre groupe a apprécié son repas. La remarque qui est revenue concerne la température de la nourriture. Certains ont trouvé que leur repas était plutôt tiède. Le tartare de boeuf peu goûteux.
Les autres repas ont été extrêmement appréciés (poisson, fish & chips, macreuse)
Sinon, le service était vraiment parfait, les consommations excellentes & l'ambiance super. Merci!

Easily one of the best meals I've had in my life.

Started with the foie gras torchon with cherry sorbet & mascarpone. I would never have thought pairing sorbet with foie Gras would work, but it did & it was absolutely delicious.

Main meal was the catch of the day. It was grilled tuna from Quebec, seared scallops from Les isles de la Madelaine, spiced carrot puree, hollandaise sauce, a medley of yellow beets, carrots & green beans & sauteed maitake mushrooms.

The freshness of the scallops was the main thing here. The tune was grilled perfectly, the carrot puree was amazing, so much so that the hollandaise sauce was almost unnecessary.

All the veggies were cooked on point & overall it was just really a perfect plate of food.

For dessert, I was too full, but my wife & daughters shared the chocolate lava cake & they all said it was exceptional.

For meals they started with the house charcuterie & Quebec cheese plate, & a salmon tartare.

For mains they had a meal size salmon tartare, the Icelandic cod fish & chips, & another catch of the day.

Not a bad thing to say about anything put on the table last night with one small exception...the bread service. For everything else being so elevated & delicious & original, the 4 little square buns that are a frozen product from a commercial bakery don't cut it.

In a city with a million bakeries, surely a nice homemade baguette even?

L'assiette de charcuteries était exquise! Wow, vraiment, nous avons savourer; on aurait recommander une autre assiette!
Pour le repas, mon conjoint a pris le tartare de saumon, lui aussi, exquis!
Pour ma part, j'ai pris la macreuse de boeuf........ je suis décue. Elle était servie differement de ce que je connais, j'ai apprécié. Mais mon morceau était litéralement brulé d'un coté; c'était difficile à manger. Je ne comprends pas comment il est possible pour un cuisinier de ne pas de rendre compte que c'est brulé! Pas juste un peu, brulé, noir, sec. Assiette plutôt simpliste.
Mais pour le reste, l'ambiance, le choix de vins & de cocktails, tout y était.
