Va Bene Bar Antipasto is a charming and highly regarded destination in Quebec City, celebrated for its authentic Italian cuisine and warm, intimate atmosphere. Guests frequently praise the exceptional level of service, often highlighting the professional and attentive staff who elevate the dining experience. A standout feature for many is the tableside preparation of pasta in a parmesan wheel, which provides both a delicious meal and a memorable interactive show. While the restaurant is noted for its cozy, smaller size, the majority of visitors describe their meals as high-quality, fresh, and consistently flavorful, with the tiramisu frequently highlighted as a must-try dessert. Whether visiting for a special celebration or a casual meal, guests often express a strong desire to return, solidifying the restaurant's reputation as a standout culinary gem in the heart of Petit Champlain.
Nice intimate restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The service is what stands out here above all, courteous, professional & welcoming.
We started with the Plateau Parma which has a nice variety food. Meat could've been more various, prosciutto & mortadella, maybe a third element would've been nice. The fried Parmesan ball was delicious but the fried polenta was bland, could've used some seasoning.
We ended with the fresh pasta in a wheel of 24month aged Grana Padana flambéed with Vecchia Romagna. It was delicious, light but creamy & not overpowering in flavour.
The restaurant was too small to offer a table side show of the pasta being prepared in the cheese wheel though they have you walk up behind the bar to watch the preparation!
The service was excellent! The staff were very welcoming & worked with our poor efforts to speak French by guiding us through the menu & the experience of seeing the pasta prepared in fluent English & a huge amount of welcome. We stopped in for a late lunch without reservations for a friend's birthday trip & the staff made it a memorable experience! Reservations during the busier seasons would probably be a good idea throughout downtown though.
Amazing experience. Our server (the server with the pretty blue eyes). We had a tomato & cheese appetizer. (& also the pasta dish.) Had a great time watching the prep. One of our favorite places in Quebec
We were seated at a nice table & enjoyed the quaint, cozy-meets-modern ambiance. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 pasta dishes we ordered arrived cold (the Bolognese & the Pesto). The Bolognese was not only cold, but also the blandest we've ever had, & the pesto had potential but it was wasn't served hot enough to enjoy (it wasn't even warm).
No one checked on us during the main course, which was disappointing. Had they done so, we would have let them know about the issue. Instead, we ended up eating the food cold, since it was a late night reservation, & we were starving, & we didn't want to make the evening uncomfortable for the other couple we were dining with.
This was especially disheartening because we had been looking forward to eating here for months, ever since we couldn't get a reservation on our last trip to Quebec. Sadly, the pasta didn't live up to the hype.
On a positive note, the flambé Alfredo pasta was good, as was the tiramisu. However, we ran into another frustration with the flambé Alfredo pasta: we requested it without meat or shrimp (due to dietary restrictions 2 people in our party had) but were told the price would be the same regardless. This meant we had to order the proteins on the side, even though no one really wanted them. It would be nice if the restaurant offered a vegan version at a fairer price...or at least provided some form of consideration, like a complimentary dessert, to account for paying for items we couldn't eat. (We paid $80 for plain Alfredo pasta for 2, definitely wasn't worth that price)
Our lunch was very enjoyable. Enjoyed the salad & plater. Pasta was a little dry but flavour nice. The risotto was lovely. The ravioli was not our favourite.
We celebrated my birthday during our honeymoon there yesterday! Right off the bat, Jeremy & the team of servers were welcoming, attentive, friendly & professional! They knew we were celebrating a special occasion & gave us a cosy & private table. Their food was amazing, but on top of that, truly their service & hospitality made the lasting impression. We'll definitely come back next time when we're in old Quebec again!
I didn't take pictures of all the food because they were too good - devoured them a little too fast. 😂 Definitely try their sharing pasta if you're visiting - they show you how they make it fresh in front of you!
Beautiful restaurant, with beautiful 3 tier antipasto platters, some of the dishes like the panzanella & pasta bolognese needed basic seasoning to lift it more. Nice expérience regardless.
