Va Bene offers an intimate and memorable dining experience in the heart of Old Quebec, known for its warm, cozy atmosphere and high-quality Italian cuisine. Guests frequently highlight the exceptional service, noting that the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about creating a special environment. Standout menu items include the fresh pasta prepared in a cheese wheel, a variety of delicious antipasto platters, and a highly praised, authentic tiramisu. While the restaurant space is small and reservations are strongly recommended to ensure a table, the combination of professional hospitality, inviting decor, and flavourful dishes makes it a highly regarded destination for both celebratory dinners and casual visits.
What a delightful surprise in a small but elegant Italian restaurant in the footprint of Chateau Montenach. You will be very glad you tried this place. We had the lamb shank & carbonara pasta, paired wine & tiramisu for dessert. EVERYTHING WAS PHENOMENAL!!!!! The pasta was perfection, & the lamb was delectable. Definitely try this place if you're in Quebec City. It's a hidden gem & worth every nickel.
Today's carbonara dish (photo on the left) did not meet my expectations. I ordered (to go) the original carbonara dish (photo on the right) from this restaurant on 25 November 2024, which was perfectly splendid, & it was the first time I ever had carbonara in my life. I was so impressed, I raved about it, even told my sister that we have to go back to try this dish when she comes to visit. Now, I think I'll pass. So, today was a major letdown, especially since I had been craving their carbonara. I just don't understand how one can change the pasta noodles of a signature Italian dish like carbonara & still call it carbonara even if the rest of the ingredients are the same. Different pasta noodles hold pasta sauces (ingredients) differently, which changes the taste of the meal. Maybe it's just me, but I was very disappointed. The two dishes prepared with different noodles are not the same. The owner/manager did offer to switch out the meal for something else completely different because they didn't have the linguine or spaghetti noodles that are traditionally prepared with carbonara. I declined because I didn't want to be responsible for wasting food. I wish I had known beforehand that the restaurant changed its menu twice a year. I would have also appreciated better advertising for this dish tonight. If I had known it wasn't going to be prepared with the traditional noodles for the carbonara dish, I would have ordered something different from the outset. But when not in Italy - I guess these types of things happen.
Calamari was delicious. The pasta was plain Jane. Maybe wrong dish but lacked flavour. Some 80$ special for 2.... But seemed like a bowl of slop & 3$ bag of pasta.

What a great place. In the tourist centre so worried but the food & service was amazing. One of the owners makes sure everything is flowing. Only issue is that we are leaving Quebec so won't get to try the parm pasta for two.
Va Bene had delicious drinks, though on the pricy side. The osso bucco was delicious, though the bolognase dish wasn't very saucy, just tasted like ground meat on pasta. The tiramisu was a nice end to the meal. The atmosphere was very nice, a very intimate restaurant. Downsides were it was very hot as the kitchen is open, service was alright, we were served by two people which was kind of confusing, & the washrooms were way too small (think airplane bathrooms).
The va bene bar antipasto restaurant has impressed me. The food is fresh, moist, & overall incredibly tasty. The fish was light, juicy, & amazingly seasoned. The pasta was amazing. If you're in the area, this is a must try.
The open kitchen afforded views of them making the parmesan pasta, a featured, tasty, but a tad overpriced for the portion size. The waitstaff was amazingly attentive & spoke fluent English while explaining dishes & recommendations. We enjoyed sharing one of the tiered platters, others enjoyed the pasta (above mentioned) feature, but felt that it should have come with a side salad for that price, the other enjoyed his beef. The atmosphere is quaint, the presentation of meals lovely & the tiramisu is nicely portioned to share!
Amazing dinner & one of the chicest restaurants we came across in Quebec City. Antipasti was beautifully presented, & the special Parmesan truffle pasta was delicious. Thanks to Phil & the staff for their attentiveness & hospitality. Highlight of our trip!
