Va Bene Bar Antipasto is a charming and highly regarded destination in Quebec City, celebrated for its authentic Italian cuisine and warm, intimate atmosphere. Guests frequently praise the exceptional level of service, often highlighting the professional and attentive staff who elevate the dining experience. A standout feature for many is the tableside preparation of pasta in a parmesan wheel, which provides both a delicious meal and a memorable interactive show. While the restaurant is noted for its cozy, smaller size, the majority of visitors describe their meals as high-quality, fresh, and consistently flavorful, with the tiramisu frequently highlighted as a must-try dessert. Whether visiting for a special celebration or a casual meal, guests often express a strong desire to return, solidifying the restaurant's reputation as a standout culinary gem in the heart of Petit Champlain.
When we arrived (party of four) we were welcomed by Philipe with a'close the door', not because he was impolite, maybe because he takes care of his clients (inside the restaurant), as it was cold outside! His second interaction with us was in the same level, while we were removing our coats, my daughter put on the table a small bottle of cassis liquor that we bought in the Christmas Market, & he hear'you just can't drink this in the restaurant', my daughter explained she was removing her coat & put there only to avoid break it! Phillip, with his traditional politeness replied insisting'just to make sure you don't drink it here'! Maybe he doesn't know, or we don't know external drinks are not allowed in restaurants! The food was ordinary! Service is pushy, & he was not happy with my 1% tip, rolled his eyes & started to move around our table making sure we were uncomfortable! I believe it was deserved, & his behavior only shows what to expect from this restaurant

We had a wonderful dining experience here this week. The service was excellent, friendly, courteous, & attentive. The food was enjoyable, & while we've definitely had better pasta, this was a solid Quebec 5 compared to most other options. We especially enjoyed the flammable pasta; it was fun to watch, & they even let you step by the kitchen to see it being prepared. Overall, it was a lovely experience, though we do wish the space were a bit larger.
Helpful tip: Reservations are recommended, as not all tables are occupied. Be sure to request a booth even if you're dining as a couple, since the two-person tables are quite small & tight.
VA Bene Bar is located steps from Rue du Petit Champlain, one of Quebec City's most beautifully decorated streets this time of year. It makes sense then that if you're in Old Quebec to view the Christmas card picture-perfect street scenes that you would dine at this restaurant.
Be aware that this restaurant is smallish & that tables only number about 12-15. It makes for a very cozy dining experience. Our table was a mere 3 feet from the front door. I highly recommend that you make a reservation.
The service is professional & somewhere between cautiously friendly & lukewarm.
My wife had the risotto funghi & found it delicious. I had the salmon & also found it to be really good.
We ordered Nonna's special recipe tiramisu &, while good, I was mildly surprised that it was served in a rectangular glass container that reminded me of the type one uses to store leftovers.
We came from Vancouver to celebrate our anniversary & were treated very well. The food was great, the service was excellent, & they gave us a delicious dessert to celebrate. A place in the heart of Quebec worth visiting. I highly recommend it.
Great atmosphere & service. I found the focaccia very dry & the noodles lacked sauce on the carbonara, but the plates looked good & the tiramisu was fantastic.
