This is a hidden gem. I looked hard to find this afternoon tea in Old Quebec. We have done the chateau Frontenac afternoon tea twice now & think this afternoon tea is much better at Bar Artefac at almost half the
cost of Chateau Frontenac Dufferin Terrace. You also have the choice of substituting coffee drinks or hot chocolate for tea. The afternoon tea doesn't hold straight laced to an British afternoon tea but rather they have made small changes for the better. Well done.
We absolutely loved our'British High Tea' at Bar Artefact. We loved that the flavors of all of the savory & sweet offerings (each one delicious) were so reflective of Quebecois flavors, from the maple to the roe & shortbread. The atmosphere & live piano music were lovely; our server was stellar, professional, considerate, & helpful from start to finish. We will always remember this time with fondness & gratitude. Proverbs 11:25--& thank you.
My family attended afternoon tea here while traveling, & as avid tea drinkers, we always try to enjoy an afternoon tea whenever we visit a new city.
Let me start with the highlights. The tea itself was excellent. The quality was outstanding, & I loved that each person could try two different varieties. The atmosphere was lovely as well. The seating was comfortable, the bar was beautiful, & a live musician performed during part of the service, which added a wonderful touch to the experience.
The service was probably the standout for us. Our server was warm, friendly, & incredibly helpful. We ended up chatting with them quite a bit, & they made the afternoon feel welcoming & relaxed.
The only reason I couldn't give five stars was the food. Nothing was bad, & everything was beautifully presented, but many of the items felt a bit understated in flavor. The scones were very simple with whipped cream, the sandwiches seemed like they could have benefited from a little more seasoning, herbs, or brightness, & while the desserts were gorgeous, their flavors didn't quite match their visual impact.
That said, I fully admit I have high standards when it comes to food & love discovering creative flavors. At $45 per person, I was hoping for a few more memorable bites that would surprise me. The overall experience was still enjoyable.

Excellent afternoon tea, tout était parfait: l'endroit, la nourriture salée & sucrée & les thés eux-mêmes. Service parfait & un très bon moment au coeur de l'hiver. Merci!
Stopped by on my last day in town since I was staying at the hotel. The bar sat right in the lobby, overlooking a small exhibit featuring a historic cannon under the staircase. They're apparently better known for their weekend afternoon tea, which explained why it was nearly empty on a weekday afternoon.
The cocktail list leaned traditional. Mostly spirit-forward classics built around gin, rum, & vodka. Not much in the way of creativity or modern flair. I went with Corn & Oil, which was a good classic, though not exactly what I was in the mood for.
Food was underwhelming overall. The oysters were fine (which is a low bar in Quebec), & the truffle fries were solid, but the fish crudo was bad. The combo of endive, melon, & fish sounded interesting, but the melon was unripe & the fish wasn't very fresh.
Maybe I just ordered the wrong things, but for the price (& the setting) it should've been better.
I had an unforgettable afternoon tea experience. It truly was amazing 🥹
The food tasted absolutely wonderful. Each peace had its unique & creative combination of flavors. I could tell they were made with lots of care & love. They put a lot of thoughts on their tea set menu. 🫖🌸
You can taste all the tea you want, they kindly bring you a new pot every time you ask for it.
It was a special trip with my mom, & I wanted it to be perfect, but the time I had here was beyond my expectations. They were so nice & made sure we were having a good time. Without a doubt, it was the highlight of our trip! 🥰
Also super generous with portion sizes, with relatively reasonable prices!! Only $45 per person!! You will be FULL even though it's a tea party, trust me & visit with the empty stomach 😎
Would come back to Quebec ONLY to visit here again! PLEASE GIVE IT A TRY!!!
I tried the afternoon tea. It was amazing. I think it's worth the price. A lot of different sweets & savory treats. & the good thing is you can try more than one type of tea from white tea, green tea & black tea, there was no limit. The staff was really nice too. The service was great. I want to come back again for this afternoon tea. The atmosphere of the place was good too.
