Review Summary

Buffet de L'Antiquaire is a beloved destination in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic and hearty Quebecois comfort food. Visitors frequently praise the generous portions and the delicious quality of classic staples like eggs Benedict, poutine, French onion soup, and homemade strawberry jam. Whether enjoyed on the charming terrace or in the cozy, retro-diner atmosphere of the upper floor, the experience is consistently described as a fantastic way to enjoy traditional local dishes. While the restaurant is exceptionally popular and often requires a wait during peak times, many diners find the welcoming service and reasonable prices to be well worth it, often returning multiple times during their stay.

This was recommended by the front desk at our hotel. Came for dinner around 5:45. Wait staff was very welcoming & knows English. Had the Table d'hote walleye (like sole) & it was excellent. I usually don't order fish other than salmon. Fish & chips were very good also. They have wine. Portions are large. It was so good that we came back for breakfast the next day ( they serve breakfast all day.) The French toast was excellent & maple syrup is the norm, of course! Their oatmeal (made with water for dairy-free) is huge, served with brown sugar.

We went here for our final breakfast & it was overall pretty disappointing. The food was very mediocre. My husband's omelette literally had a piece of what looked like an unmelted Kraft American Single in it. Ewww. None of our food was very warm & it was just okay. We did enjoy the quaint atmosphere & the French toast was decent. We found it odd though that we were told not to join tables for our family of 5, & instead guided over to a corner table for 6, only to watch the wait staff join the exact same tables two minutes later for another party that had just shown up. Anyway, we certainly wouldn't go back, with all the other better breakfast options in Old Town Quebec.

Great spot for a comforting meal. I tried the French onion soup, & it was delicious, warm, & very filling. The flavour was rich, & it felt homemade. The service was friendly, & the prices were reasonable. I would definitely come back to try more from the menu.

This place serves delicious food.'La Cochonne' is amazing for breakfast, & for lunch,'Le Ragoût de Boulettes & Pattes' is simply delicious. It's the perfect spot for anyone who loves homemade-style flavors. The menu is available in French, English, & Spanish, & the staff can assist you in all three languages. A must-visit place to eat.

Buffet de l'Antiquaire feels like the place breakfast has been quietly training for its whole life. It is classic québécois from the moment the plates arrive, but there is something more going on than just two eggs & bacon. Everything tastes like the best version of itself. The potatoes are fried exactly as they should be, golden & just shy of guilty. Eggs land on the plate cooked to the point where they make sense without any negotiation. Bacon holds that delicate line between crisp & chewy. Pancakes sit right between American fluff & French crepe softness, which somehow feels exactly right for this city.

I went a bit off script & ordered pain doré with Migneron cheese. It came out as a small revelation, the cheese tipping the whole thing into that perfect balance of salty & sweet that makes it hard to talk while eating. It felt like breakfast deciding to dress up for the occasion. The charm of the place stretches beyond the plate. Reaching it by walking along rue Sous le Cap turns the meal into a quiet little ritual, with one of the most photogenic streets in Quebec City setting the stage. It is the kind of morning that lingers in the mind, even once the last trace of maple syrup is gone.

Adorable, quaint diner. Soooo many options. Breakfast all day. Poutine options looked great. The French meat pie was delicious. The pork meatball stew was delicious as well. The option to add soup & a tea or coffee to an entree was a great bargain.
Parked at the port lot nearby & was an easy walk over.
Would absolutely come back again for the variety alone.

It was packed in here, which created a good atmosphere. The room was sweating hot & would have benefited from having the door propped open. The French onion soup was really nice & very filling. The salad we ordered afterward was amusingly large & was a strange combination of chicken, apple, tomato, green pepper, lettuces, an orange slice, coleslaw, croutons, & more.
