Review Summary

Buffet de L'Antiquaire is a beloved destination in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic and hearty Quebecois comfort food. Visitors frequently praise the generous portions and the delicious quality of classic staples like eggs Benedict, poutine, French onion soup, and homemade strawberry jam. Whether enjoyed on the charming terrace or in the cozy, retro-diner atmosphere of the upper floor, the experience is consistently described as a fantastic way to enjoy traditional local dishes. While the restaurant is exceptionally popular and often requires a wait during peak times, many diners find the welcoming service and reasonable prices to be well worth it, often returning multiple times during their stay.

Wonderful breakfast. Friendly servers, comfortable atmosphere. The food was plentiful, creative & absolutely delicious. Every plate returned to the kitchen was empty. I loved the little sample piece of French meat pie that was included with my breakfast.

We ordered the breakfast poutine, smoked meat poutine, & the meat pie. The meat pie was a bit dry but was great with the beans it came with on the side. The smoked meat poutine was very good, & the portion was great. We struggled to share it between two people. But my favorite was the breakfast poutine, I didn't expect it to taste as flavorful & fresh as it did. It was by far my favorite item that I had tried, & would highly recommend. The service was great, our waitress was very friendly & the atmosphere was nice. Would definitely come back here!

This is great breakfast place to try some of the Quebec local food, they have some customised menu for the travellers too, we arrived here around 10 am, this place gets crowded very fast, we had to wait outside for 15 mins & got seated in the balcony, we loved the ambience & decor, food wise we tried some local food in menu like shepherds pie & one more Quebec style pie, we were not great fans for it, we also ordered some American breakfast fast & that came very good, the eggs Benedict is the must try at this place. The coffee & drinks were too good, would highly recommended this place & if you not big fan of trying new dishes, I recommend to stay with the usual's.

Great local restaurant 5 min. away from crowded touristic streets. My wife loved fish a chips. I tried one of the local meat pies (le cipaille - picture attached), it was good..

A refreshing family & pocket book friendly restaurant in Old Quebec City open for breakfast & dinner. Diner with a Québécois twist. For example, good old fashioned breakfast plates with a slice of tortière (Quebec meat pie). Bottomless cups of coffee. Thick cut toast ! Generous portions. Very friendly staff (they also speak English). Nice patio in the good weather (not dog friendly in keeping with Quebec law). Great value for money especially compared to area restaurants which tend to touristy. Go early on weekends. Lineups start fairly early on.

Came for breakfast & my overall review is that it was just okay. Nothing really special about it. It's just a standard breakfast place. We got seated quickly, as it was just 2 of us. Any groups of 3+ people were waiting for a very long time. Once seated, we waited for quite some time before flagging someone down & asking to see a menu. Menu items are pretty standard for a breakfast place. Eggs, omelettes, benedict's, combos, etc. we got the Benedict & one of the breakfast combos. The benedict was not bad. Everything was cooked well, & tasted good. The breakfast combo was quite simple, with nothing really standing out. A few small eggs, a few small slices of bacon/sausage, some potatoes, & some meat pie, which was just alright. If we could rate individual menu items, we would give the coffee a 1 star. We were seated outside, where the tables were quite narrow. Not a lot of room, but it was nice to have fresh air. Prices were the best part of this meal. For the location, a $15-$20 breakfast was a great deal. However, we will not be coming back. We unfortunately did not research other breakfast places, & walked around aimlessly looking for breakfast. This location was the only breakfast place with reasonable prices that had available seating.

Very cozy place with cheap, good, big portions. Reminds me of if your grandma made you a plate of (what I assume is traditional) Quebecoise thanksgiving foods. You will not leave hungry. Big menu with lots of options for all-day breakfast to poutines & sandwiches & etc. Every meal must end with their tarte au sucre (sugar pie). My new favorite dessert.

We were recommended this Quebecois restaurant by our tour guide & had high expectations. The selection of food is great, there's something for everyone. However, we did not like the food at all. I went for their menu of the day with tourtiere & the pie itself was nice but the mashed potatoes had literally no taste at all & the boiled vegetables on the side were so bland. Their house ketchup was great though, but it seems to only come with the seasonal tourtiere menu. I thought I had made the wrong choice just because I asked for mashed potatoes rather than fried but my partner got fries & they were also just tasteless (I am assuming frozen but I don't even know). The hot chicken sandwich (which is not spicy chicken, it's a chicken sandwich doused with gravy, the waitress did warn us about this) was extremely soggy & the gravy was clearly also from a box & tasted like nothing. The chicken, despite being completely covered in gravy, was still super dry & unseasoned. It wasn't all bad, though. The service was amazing, everyone was friendly & our water glasses were always topped up immediately like it was magic. & the crepe we had for dessert was huge & delicious, with lots of berries & ice cream. Overall the prices are really good but I would've rather paid more & had just better quality of food on my plate. Maybe we chose wrong & other stuff is great but those potatoes were so sad...
