L'Antiquaire Buffet is a traditional quebecois restaurant.
I recommend to book since it used to be busy.
Cipaille is their specialty, a traditional quebecois meal, it's a meat pie based on beef/calf, pork & chicken
We had to wait in line for about half an hour before being seated. It's fine if you're not in a hurry & you have someone with you to talk with. We did notice our food was served later than other tables, we weren't sure if it was because of the dish we ordered. Most of the tables around us ordered breakfast food while I ordered spaghetti. I took the option to include soup in my meal & it also included crackers, a piece of bread, & butter. I asked the staff regarding the dessert that would be included if I ordered the top up (there was also that option) & she told me we definitely can but to decide on that later if I still wanted to. No wonder, because the spaghetti was as it showed in the menu pictures. It was the size of the entire plate with thick gooey mozzarella over it (I'm not complaining). It would feed 2 people. I had to ask my friend to help me finish it because it would be a waste since we couldn't have the remaining to go since we were leaving the city later on & it would be a hassle to be carrying food around. We still couldn't finish it because my friend also had to finish her own food.
Anyway, good service, good food which you can definitely share. What's not to like.
Excellent food in a very interesting & fun environment. We had Louise as our server both times we were there & she is so much fun. The breakfast poutine was awesome as were the shepherds pie.
I ordered an egg benedict. This comes with fries &'veggies'. I asked for the pan that's cooking it to not have been the same pan that's cooked any pork products if possible as I don't eat pork. I was told that the fries are usually cooked using the same pan/stove & that they couldn't do it any other way. I asked for a replacement of the fries & the waitress said simply'no, no replacements possible', but i still paid for the same price as the original.
What I got is what you see in the picture. A small piece of lettuce & 2 slices of tomato. That's all the veggies they provided lol..
As for the egg benedict, the eggs were too runny (they didn't ask how i wanted them cooked). The cheese used is low quality. The whole thing is just filled with sauce. It was just too soggy.
This was a place recommended by our airbnb host. Sadly it wasn't great. 2 stars because our first waiter who seated us was nice & accommodating. Not coming back.
Had the corn based soup & la cipaille (a pie with veal, pork & potatoes cooked for 12 hours in the oven) which was delicious. A sponge cake in maple syrup completed the meal.
Hit this place for dinner one night & breakfast the next day. Friendly staff, local diner vibes, good food. Ragout was delicious, meat pie solid, good specials to choose from. Breakfast bumps this review to a 5. Breakfast poutine was awesome as was the eggs Benedict & the solid breakfast plates with crepes. Be forwarned... you'll need to nap afterwards! ALOT of food!
Wonderful breakfast. Friendly servers, comfortable atmosphere. The food was plentiful, creative & absolutely delicious. Every plate returned to the kitchen was empty. I loved the little sample piece of French meat pie that was included with my breakfast.
We ordered the breakfast poutine, smoked meat poutine, & the meat pie. The meat pie was a bit dry but was great with the beans it came with on the side. The smoked meat poutine was very good, & the portion was great. We struggled to share it between two people. But my favorite was the breakfast poutine, I didn't expect it to taste as flavorful & fresh as it did. It was by far my favorite item that I had tried, & would highly recommend. The service was great, our waitress was very friendly & the atmosphere was nice. Would definitely come back here!
This is great breakfast place to try some of the Quebec local food, they have some customised menu for the travellers too, we arrived here around 10 am, this place gets crowded very fast, we had to wait outside for 15 mins & got seated in the balcony, we loved the ambience & decor, food wise we tried some local food in menu like shepherds pie & one more Quebec style pie, we were not great fans for it, we also ordered some American breakfast fast & that came very good, the eggs Benedict is the must try at this place. The coffee & drinks were too good, would highly recommended this place & if you not big fan of trying new dishes, I recommend to stay with the usual's.
