Café La Maison Smith serves as a quintessential hub for artisanal coffee enthusiasts and connoisseurs of fine pastries within the historic city core. The menu highlights a sophisticated selection of house-roasted beans, prepared through precise extraction methods to ensure a balanced profile in every cup. Patrons select from a meticulously curated display of traditional French-style viennoiseries, including buttery croissants and pain au chocolat baked to achieve perfect lamination. The interior space features a rustic aesthetic characterized by stone walls and timber elements that define the environment. These distinct architectural details complement the focus on high-quality baked goods and specialty beverages. Every offering reflects a commitment to traditional preparation techniques that maintain the integrity of classic café culture through consistent flavor and texture profiles.
Café La Maison Smith is widely recognized as a popular destination in Old Quebec, praised for its inviting atmosphere, cozy decor, and quality coffee selection. Many visitors appreciate the wide variety of pastries, sandwiches, and desserts, with particular highlights including the almond croissants, quiches, and various cheesecakes. While the majority of reviews reflect positive experiences with efficient and friendly service, some guests have noted inconsistencies in beverage temperatures, occasional service delays, or frustrations regarding order accuracy. The cafe is frequently noted for being pet-friendly and serves as a comfortable spot for both quick breaks and longer stays, despite the space sometimes feeling crowded during peak tourist hours.
The cafe has its ups & downs. The food was just okay, but the pastries were quite good, & the coffee was excellent. However, our experience was marred by a frustrating mix-up. We ordered chocolate croissants, but they gave us plain ones instead. After returning them twice, we were finally told they were out of chocolate croissants. It was a disappointing experience that could have been easily avoided with better communication. While the coffee & pastries were highlights, the service needs improvement.
Nice place with a good ambiance. They have the cafe on the left & a bar on the right. We went for a glass of Sleeman, a hot chocolate, a lemonade & fries. Loved them all. They give chips along with the beer (no extra charge). The staff was friendly & nice. It's a pedestrian only street so you may need to walk a bit to reach here after parking nearby (underground parking of D'Youville is only few minutes away). There's seating space inside as well as outside. Definitely recommended!
Although there can be long lines, it does go by fast. The pastries are amazing but pricey. The coffee is delish. Some indoor seating & outdoor patio when it's not raining. I think this is a chain cafe as I saw more than one.
Looking for a café in the middle of the day & discovered this café on the way & give it a try. It is really good. The iced latte is strong & i can taste the coffee more stronger than the milk. They also have a variety selections of sandwiches, patisseries, cakes, & macaron. The cafe also connected to a bar just beside & it's convenient for people to choose.
During my recent visit to Café La Maison Smith in Quebec City, I was absolutely delighted by the culinary experience. This vibrant & trendy café, with its enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee, offers a cozy & welcoming atmosphere that instantly draws you in. What made the visit even more special was the dog-friendly patio, where my dog Lucky could join us. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the hot chocolate. I've had my fair share of hot chocolates, but this one stands out as the best ever. It's perfectly sweet & creamy, without that watered-down taste that you often get elsewhere. Each sip was a comforting embrace of rich, velvety chocolate. We also sampled a variety of pastries, starting with the chocolate croissant. It was just right-not overly sweet & filled with a generous amount of chocolate that made each bite heavenly. The croissant itself was flaky & buttery, adding to the overall satisfaction. The star of the show, however, was the choco framboise pastry. This delightful treat offered a subtle strawberry flavor that was perfectly balanced with the rich chocolate. The pastry was wonderfully flaky & soft, making it a textural delight with every bite. It was an exquisite combination of flavors that left a lasting impression. In addition to the outstanding food & drinks, the staff were friendly & attentive, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Quebec City, Café La Maison Smith is a must-visit spot for anyone who appreciates quality pastries, exceptional hot chocolate, & a welcoming atmosphere. I can't wait to return for another round of these delightful treats!
I was hunting for a piece of chocolate cake in Quebec City when I came upon this cafe. A 5 year old picture of a slice of Avalanche Chocolate Cake enticed me to walk inside & get my own slice. Alas, that old picture of a slice of cake no longer exists. Now, they have little round cakes & they don't call them Avalanche Chocolate Cakes, but they are equally as delicious. The mousse is rich & the glazing is decadent. The price is high, which is one thing that remained the same from 5 years ago--but the quality is undeniable.
