Très belle expérience chez Chez Boulay. On sent un réel souci de mettre en valeur les produits locaux, ce qui est toujours appréciable & bien exécuté dans l'ensemble.

Le repas était bon, avec une approche soignée & une belle cohérence dans l'assiette.
Coup de coeur pour le dessert : un parfait au miel, léger & frais, avec une délicate touche de cassis, absolument délicieux & parfaitement équilibré.

Une adresse qui mérite d'être découverte, notamment pour son engagement envers les ingrédients d'ici.

Overall, a memorable dining experience but with some flaws. Beginning from the door & host desk: a very friendly greeting & all the more so as I bone-headedly mixed up my own reservation date of March 14 & we were a day early. Given it was a later seating time, they graciously accomodated us with a table for 3, for which I commend them! Service staff are young, energetic, fluently bilingual, & very knowledgeable about the varied menu - a bonus given that exotic boreal dishes benefit from some explanation & help. We ordered two cocktails & a bottle of white wine. An apple cider rum concoction that my 25 year old son loved. My martini was superbly mixed, but the olives were small, pitted, & under-ripe. Get better martini olives & it goes from a'3' to a'5'! The wine took almost 10 minutes to arrive after the cocktails because they were out of the chardonnay we ordered. The wine manager needs to communicate stock-outs to the staff else customers & table servers will be disappointed. We were. On to starters: we spilt two between us - the smoked whitefish & a medly of exotic mushrooms. Both dishes were exceptional. The bold & smoky fish was beautifully balanced by the accompanying puree. The mushrooms mixed textures - some crispy browned, others more gently seared & tender. Amazing! Mains: son planned to go conservative with flat iron steak but our server backed his decision to try braised beef cheek. It was spectacular & a nice experience to try a less-common cut of beef. I ordered the duck breast & was disappointed. The cook was a perfect medium rare but the meat itself was impossibly tough & chewy. I noted raw bits of blubbery, unrendered fat under the skin which tells me they seared the duck in a hot pan vs. starting cold & raising the heat to render the fat before crisping/colouring the skin. This will unavoidably tighten the meat, even more so if the resting period is rushed. Duck breast is wickedly technical to prepare, but I very much looked forward to a Michelin-level treatment & was sadly disappointed. Suggested wine pairings from our server (a different red for each of the mains) were spot-on! Son doesn't care for red wine generally but became a convert on this one. I actually forget the dessert we shared, because it was so delicious, I entered a dessert-dream-state & became foggy on the details! Overall, a very memorable experience, which we'd happily repeat - perhaps ordering differently from the duck.

Excellent repas, le bar rayé un vrai régal. On aurait le service du sommelier.
Notre table était immédiatement derrière la desserte donc quelques moments de sursaut à cause du bruit des assiettes.

In my opinion, Chez Boulay - Bistro Boréal is one of the best places in Quebec City.

The food was absolutely incredible - the salmon, the steak, the greens, & even the dessert were unbelievably delicious. The service was wonderful, & the restaurant itself feels very cozy & atmospheric.

They are listed as Michelin Select in the Michelin Guide, but honestly, in my opinion, they deserve much more. ✨🍽?

Excellent service qui a permis de bien terminer la soirée. Le repas principal (macreuse) est arrivé froid & sauce figée. Comme on ne retourne jamais un plat en cuisine (pour avoir déjà travaillé en restauration) - le serveur s'est toutefois assuré d'offrir desserts & accompagnent sans frais.

Fantastic restaurant in the heart of the old city! Most likely the best table within the walls!
Waiter was informed of our dietary restrictions & helped us navigate the menu & explained every component & details of every dish we chose, it was simply an amazing experience. We had some very good laughs with the waiter, they are all kind & always in a good mood! & once we did receive our food, we were savouring every bite & had our fill with a shared appetizer, each an entré, & each a dessert. Definitely a goto for unique flavours.

The seating area is quite large & is busy practically every night of the week, we went on a Thursday evening in the last weeks of January & every seat was taken! We were expecting a little quieter but that comes with the territory with having a fantastic restaurant in the old city.

For the quality of dish you get, I don't think you could pay a better price in the old city; definitely recommended to anyone I know passing in the area.

Loved my meal here!! I'm a pescatarian & the waiter was great at helping me navigate the menu. I ordered a crab cake style appetizer & a scallop & vegetable entree & both were incredible. The other photos I added are what my family got & also loved (meaty items). The desserts were excellent as well! Highly recommend!

We were visiting from out of town & chose this restaurant to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. The atmosphere was lovely, & our server was friendly & attentive. We were a little disappointed that they didn't offer a standard margarita, but the food was good, & the thoughtful birthday dessert was a very nice touch.

Un peu déçu du souper, beau resto, belle ambiance mais vraiment moyen la nourriture. Le pain servi a table est sec, soupe a l'oignon délicieuse. Entrée de pâte avec encore le pain grillé trop sec. Le repas de pétoncle est bon mais les flancs de porc sont 80% du gras. Frites a cotées bonne mais molle (des frites cela doit être croustillant). La joue était superbe mais le genre de pesto moutarde était vraiment super amer & désagréable. Les desserts (tarte argousier) bonne mais trop sucrée & le chou carrément pas bon, pas frais, on aurait di que cela fait 3 jours qu'il était fait & franchement beaucoup mais beaucoup trop sucré. Donc dans l'ensemble, décevant pour le prix.
