It was quite busy & loud. Food was ok, but I did just return from Japan so my expectation is high? If you are looking for some warm soup especially in cold QC, this will satisfy you. Personally - I've just had too many good ramens thus I gave it a 3 star.
I came from Montreal for a short visit & decided to try Hono Ramen based on its strong reviews & Michelin Guide recognition. Unfortunately, the entire experience was a massive disappointment.
The dining space was uncomfortably hot & humid: their AC has apparently been out for days, yet there were no fans or accommodations for guests. Service was similarly lacking; we waited over 30 minutes for our food without a single check-in from our server, who only approached our table to take our order & drop off the bill.
Most frustrating & disappointing of all was the food. The Tonkotsu ramen was easily the worst I've had. Rather than a rich, creamy, slow-simmered bone broth, it tasted like thin, salty water. The noodles were overcooked, the broth was lukewarm, the chashu was tough & bland, & the egg was overly salty; honestly outclassed by a basic convenience store cup ramen. My friend had the Shoyu, I only tried the broth once so I cannot say much about it, but he also said it was only slightly better than the instant noodles we got.
The Sapporo slushie was passable, but certainly didn't salvage the meal. Coming from Montreal's vibrant ramen scene, it's baffling how this made the Michelin Guide. I genuinely hope management pulls the Tonkotsu off the menu until they can execute a proper bone broth. Save your money & skip this one.
Food was excellent. We order the tonkotsu ramen dishes & we were not disappointed with the flavours & portions. We didn't have a reservation so we got seated by the kitchen, which was cool to watch them prepare the meals, but it was very warm for sitting. Would recommend booking a table in advance!
Extremely disappointing experience.
From the time we placed our order until the ramen was served, we waited well over 30 minutes. During that time, only a few appetizers arrived. Even then, no bowls were provided for sharing-we were given only chopsticks & had to sort everything out ourselves.
Service was practically nonexistent. Other than bringing us water at the beginning, the staff disappeared completely. No one checked on us, updated us on the wait, or asked if we needed anything.
Despite the poor service, I still chose to leave the full tip out of goodwill. Looking back, I honestly regret that decision because the service simply did not deserve it.
The food was even more disappointing. Considering the high prices, the quality was nowhere near acceptable. The ramen arrived only lukewarm, the noodles were already overcooked & clumped together, & the broth was overwhelmingly salty. It was honestly one of the worst bowls of ramen I've ever had.
For the price they charge, the value is incredibly poor. I genuinely don't understand how a restaurant serving food at this level has built such a strong reputation. I would not return & cannot recommend it.
Food & service were incredible & our server Linda was very nice. Best Ramen I have ever had!
