About

Kundah Hôtel provides a focused exploration of Indian culinary traditions through a diverse menu highlighting regional spices and aromatic blends. The selection emphasizes a wide variety of vegetarian preparations that utilize fresh lentils, garden vegetables, and traditional dairy components to achieve complex flavor profiles. Expertly balanced masalas provide a foundational depth to signature curries, while clay oven techniques impart distinct textures to various plant-based offerings. Diners encounter a menu constructed around time-honored cooking methods that showcase the versatility of pulses, grains, and seasonal produce in authentic combinations. Fragrant basmati rice and house-made breads accompany these dishes to ensure a complete sensory experience centered on traditional preparation. Each plate reflects an objective commitment to maintaining the integrity of South Asian flavor structures through careful sourcing and methodical execution of classic recipes.

Review Summary

Kundah Hôtel is widely celebrated for its innovative Indian fusion cuisine, which creatively blends traditional flavors with local Quebec ingredients. Many diners highly recommend the generous and diverse tasting menu, often describing it as an exceptional culinary journey that offers great value for the quality provided. While the service is frequently praised for being professional, friendly, and attentive, some guests have noted inconsistencies, ranging from temperature issues and loud music to mixed experiences depending on seating arrangements. Although the unique concept and vibrant atmosphere leave a lasting impression on most, it is important to note that the menu is experimental rather than strictly traditional, making it a distinct dining experience that encourages reservations.

Go for the experience & unique flavours! It is inspired from Indian cuisine but has its own spin to it!

We had an incredible experience! As the website says this is fusion not traditional Indian. Alex the owner took care of us along with Martin & the rest of the wonderful team. We did the Discovery menu which gave us the opportunity to try many dishes. We loved every single dish but our tops were the paneer, the cashew sauce on the side of lamb kebabs & the eggplant (said my husband that doesn't prefer for it). Thanks for a great meal!

Amazing food. Indian with a local twist. Beautifully presented. The portions were small, but everything was delicious. Very creative.

An incredible experience from start to finish. Our waiter (young man with curly hair) was so attentive & knew the menu inside out. We went for the discovery menu & it did not disappoint, with so many interesting dishes & great flavours. The Indian Mule cocktail is also worth trying!

I had the dahi puri, achari chicken & chapati. The Dahi Puri was pretty ok, like definitely satisfying - but I didn't really understand the'twist' - it was there in writing but not in taste. It was also an average Dahi Puri that you'd get at an Indian restaurant.

The Chicken was not good - I understand this is fusion but a foundational component of south asian cooking is not using chciekn skin, it's always discarded. So it have it on chicken tikka was very confusing, added essentially nothing, & was hard to remove because they top the sauce on it. The sauce was also very forgettable, I think anyone can make a superior version at home from a good recipe.

The chapati was not cooked so I didn't eat it all.

The mango masala mocktail was a highlight! Overall, I would not return but kudos to them for attempting a fun concept!

Fantastic food, the best restaurant in Quebec city so far. This is not'authentic' Indian food, rather it's food inspired by South Indian cuisine with local ingredients. & it's delicious, varied, original & very well presented. Expect a variety of flavours & textures in every bite.
We took the degustation menu (45$ p.p.) & we were not disappointed! There was a LOT of food. None of this small plates that leave you starving nonsense. & there was a lot of variety despite the fact that one of us had certain allergies & the other was vegetarian: other plances may want to play it safe & only bring dishes that would tick both boxes, but Kundah Hotel did not compromise: each of us got to taste plenty of different dishes, with the staff cautioning us as to which plate each of us should pass on.
What a fantastic evening. We'll be back!

A Taste of India with a Quebec Flair

Last night, we had the pleasure of dining at this incredible Indian restaurant that offers a unique fusion of Indian flavors with a touch of Quebec. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm & inviting atmosphere, with an ambiance that effortlessly combined the vibrancy of India with the cozy charm of Quebec.

The chef has truly outdone himself by replicating the diverse & rich culinary traditions from different parts of India. Each dish we tried was a delightful journey, showcasing the authentic flavors & spices of Indian cuisine while still being accessible & enjoyable for all palates. Even my friends who are not usually adventurous with food were thoroughly impressed & pleased with the taste.

The menu is a fantastic blend of classic Indian dishes & creative twists that incorporate local Quebec ingredients. It's clear that the team put a lot of thought & effort into creating a dining experience that celebrates both cultures.

The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive, friendly, & knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to answer any questions we had & make recommendations based on our preferences.

Kudos to the chef & the amazing team for creating such a memorable dining experience especially on a very special occasion for us. They even gave us a special dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you ☺?

Visited Kundah Hotel with some friends because of the great reviews & an interesting Indian fusion premise. I left rather disappointed for a few reasons. Firstly, I don't think it's accurate to categorize this as Indian fusion as many dishes we ordered were completely unrecognizable & seemed to share nothing but the name. Secondly it was rather expensive since you receive the food a d realize the portions are nearly half what you expected. Lastly it seems the menu changes often since many items I saw from previous reviews & the online menu were not present. You'll enjoy this restaurant if you're not overly familiar with Indian food or would prefer it greatly tamed down & & don't mind small portions. Otherwise, I believe you should look elsewhere for Indian or even Indian fusion.
