Back in the day, when Savoyard shepherds wanted to warm up, they poured a little coffee and a lot of alcohol into a wooden shoe, hence the name “grolle”. Later, these shepherds made wooden containers that included several holes specifically designed for this recipe. There are now several sizes of grolles depending on the number of guests (from 2 holes to 8 holes). The grolle, also known as the “cup of friendship”, usually gets passed from hand to hand and should not come back on the table until it is finished.

Pour manger un bon plat savoyard, bonne adresse ! Pour les viandes ( fondues , pierrades..) concept un peu changeant de l'original mais très bien également. On recommande pour passer une bonne soirée entre amis dans un environnement chaleureux.
Une soirée inoubliable à La Grolla ! Dès notre arrivée, l'ambiance chaleureuse & l'accueil convivial nous ont mis dans l'esprit d'une expérience culinaire unique. La décoration traditionnelle & l'atmosphère intime créent un cadre parfait pour une soirée en couple ou entre amis. Le menu est un véritable voyage pour les amateurs de fondue. Nous avons opté pour la fondue fromage Québécoise & elle était exquise ! Le fromage était riche, parfaitement fondu, & les accompagnements étaient variés & frais. On sent que les ingrédients sont soigneusement sélectionnés pour offrir des saveurs authentiques & de qualité. Le vin recommandé par notre serveur se mariait également à merveille avec le plat, ajoutant une touche spéciale à notre repas. Le service mérite aussi une mention d'excellence : notre serveur était attentif, sans être envahissant, & connaissait le menu en profondeur, ce qui nous a permis de faire des choix éclairés. On sent une passion sincère pour la cuisine & un souci du détail dans chaque aspect de l'expérience. Pour ceux qui recherchent une expérience fondue mémorable à Québec, La Grolla est tout simplement un incontournable. La qualité des plats, l'ambiance unique & le service impeccable en font un lieu que je recommande sans hésiter. Hâte d'y retourner pour essayer leur raclette ! Very cute little restaurant ! The food was ok, as good as any other fondue place... the cheese fondue didn't seem like much, the Chinese fondue had a good amount of meat.. but nothing to go with it other than potatoes (maybe like 2 per person) & a tiny salad & sauces Then there was a small chocolat fondue, it's not your traditional one but really warm chocolate in a tiny bowl with random fruits around Not super keen of the sarcastic service ...
Un délicieux trio de fondues & escargots gratinés avec un superbe vin " le du Bosch" merci au patron & aux serveurs pour le super accueil ! & pour ceux que ça intéresse le patron cherche à partir à la retraite !!
The concierge at our hotel said this is the only fondue place that all the other concierges recommend. Good sign. It's just outside the tourist area... still a nice walk to get there. Has a vintage alpine vibe... very retro... which I could appreciate. Hipper people might find it dated & old, but I loved it; oddly romantic. It was a busy Monday night (September 16, 2024), another good sign. One server working, but he was on his game & was attentive. His English was excellent. My partner got the charcuterie app & I had the onion soup. Both excellent. Bread course served for free. We got the Swiss fondue & the Chinese fondue. Both delicious. The cheese is a great quality & didn't taste cheap. I recommend dipping the bread in the Chinese first, then the Swiss... delicious. The beef was high quality & melted in our mouths. Fondue is always a fond memory for me & this place didn't disappoint. My only recommendation would be to refinish the tables; the varnish on the tables needs some tlc . Other than that, no complaints. I would go again if I get to Quebec City in the future. Our concierge was right, & I let her know it.
WOW. We ordered the Fondue Trio as did our two friends--the amount of food was generous, the classic cheese fondue had an incredible rich flavor & consistency, & both the Traditional Chinese (with the BEST, paper-thin beef ever!) & the Seafood (scallops shrimp salmon) version had amazing freshness & quality. The chocolate fondue was delicious,too, but the original finished were just absolutely unbelievable. Wonderful staff.
