L'Affaire Est Ketchup delivers a focused expression of regional French culinary traditions by prioritizing fresh, market-driven components. The kitchen emphasizes bold preparations that respect the raw integrity of locally sourced produce and proteins. Its unpretentious atmosphere highlights a commitment to technical precision while avoiding unnecessary culinary embellishments. Every dish reflects an evolving menu structure that adapts strictly to the seasonal availability of quality regional ingredients. The environment facilitates a direct connection between the plate and the agricultural landscape of the surrounding area. Guests experience a robust interpretation of French-inspired cooking that favors hearty flavors and traditional techniques over stylized presentation. This establishment maintains a disciplined approach to sourcing, ensuring that the culinary output remains consistently tethered to the natural harvest cycles of the surrounding countryside.
L'Affaire Est Ketchup offers a unique and intimate dining experience that many patrons liken to enjoying a high-quality meal in a close friend's home. The restaurant features a revolving, seasonal menu that is announced to the entire dining room at once, fostering a communal and engaging atmosphere. While the venue is celebrated for its masterful, unpretentious culinary approach and exceptional dishes like sweetbreads, duck, and various seafood options, some visitors find the pace of the meal to be quite slow and the small, rustic space occasionally uncomfortable. Despite a few mixed reviews regarding portion sizes and the temperature of the room, the majority of diners praise the passionate staff, the theatrical presentation of the food, and the overall authenticity of the experience, often describing it as one of the best meals they have had in Quebec City.
This dinner was the highlight of our time in Quebec City. The food was fantastic, but even more special was the experience & atmosphere. The server, bartender, & chefs were all amazing & so talented & friendly. We sat at the bar, which made it extra fun to watch them prepare the food. Their operation is remarkable. If you're solo or a pair, definitely request to sit at the bar. We shared our meals with the solo diner next to us & that communal atmosphere was really representative of the whole experience. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more! & don't skip dessert!
A special place, the perfect experience. Don't leave without ordering the sweetbread…& get the dessert.
Some of the best dishes in Quebec, in a carefree relaxed environment. A shared experience at the start as the menu is explained. Each dish has remarkable flavour, & technical depth.
Like hanging out at your friends apartment, if your friend was a Michelin chef.
Cute place. Homey charm. The food is wonderful. The atmosphere was amazing. I was able to go near the kitchen & see the chefs preparing our food. Everything is amazing.

The entire experience was the height of gastronomic excellence, but served in a warm, friendly & relaxed environment. The menu changes daily but we were blown away by the tomato & burrata, the fresh asparagus, the sweetbreads & the beef shoulder. Definitely the best meal I've had in Quebec. We had the bar table & marvelled that the chef prepared everything on two small electric ovens. Would recommend to anyone wanting a high end culinary treat!
This place is super fun. We came hear because of the feature in Anthony Bourdain's series. The fun environment did not disappoint - the group of talented young chefs working around 2 small electric stoves.
Food was good, but not great. We ordered 4 things:
Asparagus 5/5 - Very fresh, very tasty with all the citrus incorporated into the salad. The vinaigrette was perfectly balanced - not too sharp or sweet.
Scallops 3/5 - scallops were at the perfect doneness - seared on one side, then just lightly touched on the other, with a ton of butter. Unfortunately not all the scallops were seared well, some looked like they were boiled. The vegetables tasted like an afterthought - they were cold & unappetizing.
Demi-poulet 2/5 - the chicken was dry. The skin was nice & crisp, & the flavour was great, but it was hard to reconcile with the stringy meat. This was a let down, especially since the waiter said it was cooked'sous-vide' prior to putting into the oven - we were anticipating a very juicy, perfectly cooked bird. Again, the vegetables tasted like an afterthought.
Brownie 5/5 - YUM. Warm dark chocolate brownie topped with chilled Bailey's whipped cream. This was so delicious, & worth every cent.
I regularly eat salmon. I believe I'm a pretty terrific salmon chef. I just returned from dinner at L'Affaire. This was the very most fantastic salmon dish I've had...the very most!!! My wife had the duck. She raved about it. We did not have starter or dessert dishes though I have no doubt they are terrific. The entree portion size is so generous you won't leave hungry if you just order an entree (highly recommend salmon!!!).
This was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had.
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed. They were attentive, warm, & took the time to explain the menu in both French & English, which immediately set the tone for a wonderful evening.
We started with Limbo Yuzu & lime Montellier, followed by the riz d'agneau, which was rich & absolutely delicious. For the mains, my fiancé had the confit filet de boeuf & I chose the fruits de mer. Both plates were exquisite & beautifully prepared.
Dessert was the perfect ending: brownie with chantilly & a flawless crème brûlée. Every bite was amazing.
More than a meal, this was a truly special, one-of-a-kind experience. Pure chef's kiss. A must-visit in Québec City.
I wish Google would have a 100 stars for reviews because 5 stars are too short for this resto. Very cool & homey, you feel you are hanging out at your friends house, but your friend is an excellent chef! If you are open to a new experience, this resto if for you!
One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Food was delicious. The salmon gravlax w/ gazpacho was amazing. Even better was the service. Great hosts & chefs. We had a blast sitting at the bar. Highly highly recommend!
We were one of the 10-ish lucky tables that could get a reservation with these amazing chefs. These guys came with a beautiful idea were they change constantly their menu - you can go one day & the next one you can easily find totally different dishes. Though the nature of their menu is dynamic the warm, hospitality & kindness of these chefs remains the same. It was a pleasure to share such a good time at your restaurant & experienced the delicacy & creativity of your food. This is definitely one of the places where you are happy to pay & spend your time.
