Three years ago, while visiting Quebec City, my partner & I were told,'You have to try L'affaire est Ketchup.' We gave it a try-& from the very first bite, we understood why everyone recommended it.
Last week, we returned to Quebec City, & before I even packed my suitcase, I made sure to reserve a table there to celebrate my birthday. Some traditions are worth keeping.
Once again, it was an unforgettable experience. The team is warm, welcoming, & incredibly knowledgeable. Their wine recommendations are always spot on, & every dish is thoughtfully prepared & absolutely delicious.
Some restaurants serve great food. Others create an experience that stays with you long after the meal is over. L'affaire est Ketchup is one of those rare places.

This dinner was the highlight of our time in Quebec City. The food was fantastic, but even more special was the experience & atmosphere. The server, bartender, & chefs were all amazing & so talented & friendly. We sat at the bar, which made it extra fun to watch them prepare the food. Their operation is remarkable. If you're solo or a pair, definitely request to sit at the bar. We shared our meals with the solo diner next to us & that communal atmosphere was really representative of the whole experience. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more! & don't skip dessert!

The menu is ever revolving, so you do not know your menu until you arrive.
The space is small, they only do two servings a day, once everyone for your booked serving has arrived & has a drink then you will hear what your options are!
We enjoyed some recommended glasses of wine, as we were not provided with a menu, we just trusted our server would know what to pair with the dishes we ordered, & they did!
The food on the menu & that we ordered was phenomenal. Well worth the almost hour wait from sit down to eating our first dish … so do not arrive hungry!

We got a last minute reservation for 6 pm & they were very accomodating to us & our toddler. We sat down & the menu was presented to the whole restaurant by the staff in both French & English. We ordered the asparagus to start & the duck & the halibut for mains. Everything was amazingly delicious & very well-balanced - worth every penny. The restaurant was cozy & relaxed & the staff were friendly & knowledgeable. We highly recommend going here for delicious food & fun vibes. Definitely book in advance!
The entire experience was the height of gastronomic excellence, but served in a warm, friendly & relaxed environment. The menu changes daily but we were blown away by the tomato & burrata, the fresh asparagus, the sweetbreads & the beef shoulder. Definitely the best meal I've had in Quebec. We had the bar table & marvelled that the chef prepared everything on two small electric ovens. Would recommend to anyone wanting a high end culinary treat!
Although L'Affaire est ketchup is super highly rated, the portions, food, & atmosphere fell a flat.
The menu changes daily which is a unique & fun concept which allows for ingredients to be fresh & seasonal. The vegetables, grains & pasta were cooked to perfection & had great flavour. But the main star of the dishes such as the beef & duck were dry & tough. The croquette we ordered was soggy, the fish appetizer was dry, & the mozzarella appetizer was something you'd see at any average restaurant. We found most of the proteins to be very tough & lacking in portion size especially for the price.
We loved the lamb dish as well as the sweet breads appetizer but the rest were very average. The wine list was well selected & we ordered two bottles which were both great. Overall there were one or two dishes that we liked, while the rest were nothing to write home about.
The interior was unique & homey but was very noticeably dusty & a bit neglected. Also the bathrooms were insanely small, & super awkward to wash our hands in. This was a minus for us in atmosphere. It was bustling & busy, it felt great to have a conversation there with friends & the staff, but we couldn't overlook the inaccessibility & state of the interior.
TLDR: Slightly overrated. If you're in the area you should try it for yourself if you really want to, but I wouldn't recommend anyone go out of their way. We enjoyed our experience but probably wouldn't come back again.
I regularly eat salmon. I believe I'm a pretty terrific salmon chef. I just returned from dinner at L'Affaire. This was the very most fantastic salmon dish I've had...the very most!!! My wife had the duck. She raved about it. We did not have starter or dessert dishes though I have no doubt they are terrific. The entree portion size is so generous you won't leave hungry if you just order an entree (highly recommend salmon!!!).
A lovely dining experience in this quaint & cozy restaurant. It appears the menu changes on a daily basis based on the fresh ingredients available. The server orates the menu options to the patrons. I had an amazing steak entre & a lamb sweetbread appetizer. The food was delicious & they had a very nice wine selection. It was a unique & special dining experience. I highly recommend.
