About

Le Casse-Crêpe Breton specializes in the preparation of traditional French crêpes, offering an extensive selection of savory galettes made with buckwheat flour and sweet crêpes featuring diverse fruit and chocolate fillings. The menu emphasizes consistent preparation techniques, ensuring each crêpe maintains a thin, delicate texture paired with fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced for classic flavor profiles. Patrons observe the production process from an open station where batter is spread onto heated griddles with practiced precision. The establishment maintains a functional, casual atmosphere suitable for straightforward, focused dining centered on its core griddle-based offerings. Beyond the signature crêpes, the kitchen provides hearty sandwiches constructed with artisanal bread and select deli meats. This venue remains a primary destination for individuals seeking authentic Breton culinary staples served in a direct, no-nonsense format without unnecessary embellishments.

Review Summary

Le Casse-Crêpe Breton offers a popular dining experience in Old Quebec City, widely praised for its extensive menu of both savory and sweet crepes that are often described as delicious, fresh, and perfectly portioned. Many visitors enjoy the cozy, classic atmosphere and the entertaining open kitchen where they can watch their food being prepared. While the staff is frequently highlighted as friendly, kind, and efficient, some guests have reported inconsistent service, including long wait times, occasional order mix-ups, or a hurried feeling during peak hours. Opinions on the buckwheat crepes are notably mixed, with some diners finding them authentic and enjoyable, while others feel the texture and flavor are lacking compared to traditional expectations. Despite some critiques regarding specific sides or seasoning, the restaurant remains a frequent go-to for many, especially for those seeking a charming, reasonably priced breakfast or brunch in a beautiful, historic setting.

I got one of the suggested crepes, & unfortunately, the food had no taste. For Quebec City, where most of the time the food is fantastic, this place was disappointing. Also, the hostess was rude when we asked for a different table than the one they offered in between the cuisine & the washroom. We gladly had a very friendly server who saved some of the experience. But it's definitely not a place I'm going back to.

We woke up a little later than usual for a Saturday morning but we were pleasantly surprised at the very small wait to get in to this fantastic place. We were told the owner took it over a few years ago. I was there over 20 years ago & the atmosphere still had the same vibe but more upscaled & sophisticated. Wonderful service & the crepes were indeed delicious. Wonderful service & plenty of smiles in such a bustling environment.

Un de mes endroits préférés pour prendre un petit-déjeuner avec une copine dans une ambiance agréable au coeur de la vieille ville! Les crêpes salées sont délicieuses, l'accueil est agréable & le lieu légendaire!

Savory crepes were ok but not that special or must try. I found it just so so. Quite filling up & I can't finish the whole crepe. Small place but cozy, & you can see the chef making crepes. Decent price. Quick service.

In old Quebec City, I feel like I'm in early modern France. Le Casse-Crepe Breton fits this old image. Inside is not large, & you may have to wait in the queue outside. But it's worth it, especially if you love crepes the way I do. Don't skip it when you are in Quebec City.

Our friend recommended this place to us & it was worth the wait to enter! We had a few minutes to wait before entering as it was very busy! The space at the bar was a little tight but was well worth it as it let us watch the chefs in action! It was a wonderful experience to see! Our servers were excellent, friendly, attentive! The crepes were delicious & good portion. Our morning hot chocolate with a hint of baileys was fantastic. Would definitely come here again !
