About

Le Casse-Crêpe Breton specializes in the preparation of traditional French crêpes, offering an extensive selection of savory galettes made with buckwheat flour and sweet crêpes featuring diverse fruit and chocolate fillings. The menu emphasizes consistent preparation techniques, ensuring each crêpe maintains a thin, delicate texture paired with fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced for classic flavor profiles. Patrons observe the production process from an open station where batter is spread onto heated griddles with practiced precision. The establishment maintains a functional, casual atmosphere suitable for straightforward, focused dining centered on its core griddle-based offerings. Beyond the signature crêpes, the kitchen provides hearty sandwiches constructed with artisanal bread and select deli meats. This venue remains a primary destination for individuals seeking authentic Breton culinary staples served in a direct, no-nonsense format without unnecessary embellishments.

Review Summary

Le Casse-Crêpe Breton offers a popular dining experience in Old Quebec City, widely praised for its extensive menu of both savory and sweet crepes that are often described as delicious, fresh, and perfectly portioned. Many visitors enjoy the cozy, classic atmosphere and the entertaining open kitchen where they can watch their food being prepared. While the staff is frequently highlighted as friendly, kind, and efficient, some guests have reported inconsistent service, including long wait times, occasional order mix-ups, or a hurried feeling during peak hours. Opinions on the buckwheat crepes are notably mixed, with some diners finding them authentic and enjoyable, while others feel the texture and flavor are lacking compared to traditional expectations. Despite some critiques regarding specific sides or seasoning, the restaurant remains a frequent go-to for many, especially for those seeking a charming, reasonably priced breakfast or brunch in a beautiful, historic setting.

Rubbery crepe, inaccurate opening hours & young staff who don't care. 0% crêpe bretonne pour ceux qui en connaît!

Seemed like a nice place, but tge crepe were awful. The buckwheat kne tasted like dry cardboard & the wheat flour one was rubbery & pale.

We tried the homemade sauce apple crêpe with ice cream & it completely surprised us. The flavour was amazing.
The texture was light & the filling was warm, balanced, & not overly sweet with tender apples. They're right, they have the best crepes

& that's saying a lot-because I don't even like apple desserts 😅. Highly recommended

Very disappointed in the service here & the quality of crepes!!!
We arrived around 5:15pm & there was only one other couple.
We were ready to order & kept looking around at a server & there were 3 of them standing around. None of them looked our way or heard us say'excuse me!'
I literally watched them take an order of a party of 3 that just wanted drinks but came AFTER us!
I finally caught the attention of one of them by loudly saying excuse me with my arm raised.
They were all young looking too (in their 20s).
After our order was taken, the food took awhile to come out & I noticed that another couple that came AFTER us, was served their food (also crepes) before us!!
I was so hungry & upset!

When the crepes finally arrived, it was lackluster. Nothing special. The chocolate over powered the maple butter that was supposedly in my crepe. The texture of the crepe was rough & hard to cut.

Le Buche has better crepes!

My husband & I choose this place so that we could have authentic French crepes. Our server, which we did not get her name, was very friendly. We learned she was from Germany, which we were just in Germany last December for the Christmas Market. She invited us to come back to Quebec for their Christmas market. The food was very good & service was very friendly & personable.

Quite mid tbh. Went here for breakfast on a Monday morning around 9. Perhaps because it's located on a touristy street, the atmosphere here was more modernish than i expected, playing pop songs in the background.

I like how they let you byo crepe so that you can have all the ingredients you like. I got a buckwheat crepe with spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, asparagus, raiser beef, & pesto sauce. The portion was okay, though I expected it to be more filling than it had.

The taste of the buckwheat crepe was mid, not giving out a lot of flavor, & its texture was more rough than another one I had in another crepe restaurant (which I liked better). The veggies fillings were just fine, nothing special, & the roast beef also lack in flavor & seasoning, making the entirety of the dish tasted kinda dry & bland.

Overall just a OK restaurant, nothing outstanding. Personally wouldn't return.

I'd say if you're really looking for a NICE & DECENT crepe restaurant, try other places (e.g. Le Billig) that's more authentic!
