About

Le Casse-Crêpe Breton specializes in the preparation of traditional French crêpes, offering an extensive selection of savory galettes made with buckwheat flour and sweet crêpes featuring diverse fruit and chocolate fillings. The menu emphasizes consistent preparation techniques, ensuring each crêpe maintains a thin, delicate texture paired with fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced for classic flavor profiles. Patrons observe the production process from an open station where batter is spread onto heated griddles with practiced precision. The establishment maintains a functional, casual atmosphere suitable for straightforward, focused dining centered on its core griddle-based offerings. Beyond the signature crêpes, the kitchen provides hearty sandwiches constructed with artisanal bread and select deli meats. This venue remains a primary destination for individuals seeking authentic Breton culinary staples served in a direct, no-nonsense format without unnecessary embellishments.

Review Summary

Le Casse-Crêpe Breton offers a popular dining experience in Old Quebec City, widely praised for its extensive menu of both savory and sweet crepes that are often described as delicious, fresh, and perfectly portioned. Many visitors enjoy the cozy, classic atmosphere and the entertaining open kitchen where they can watch their food being prepared. While the staff is frequently highlighted as friendly, kind, and efficient, some guests have reported inconsistent service, including long wait times, occasional order mix-ups, or a hurried feeling during peak hours. Opinions on the buckwheat crepes are notably mixed, with some diners finding them authentic and enjoyable, while others feel the texture and flavor are lacking compared to traditional expectations. Despite some critiques regarding specific sides or seasoning, the restaurant remains a frequent go-to for many, especially for those seeking a charming, reasonably priced breakfast or brunch in a beautiful, historic setting.

Un grand bravo à toute l'équipe ! L'accueil a été tout simplement excellent : chaleureux, souriant & attentionné du début à la fin.

Our first visit was fabulous however the second time we came we had to wait for a clean table. The guests behind us in line were seated ahead of us & served before us. Our waiter did not refill our coffee until long after empty. On the plus side the food is delicious.

Best crepes I have ever had, made from scratch in-house. The atmosphere & customer service were excellent, too.

The Oreo dessert crape was to die for. Highly recommend. If you have the chance sit at the bar & watch the crape maker go. Entertained my kids the whole time.

I would have loved to leave a higher review as the crêpes were very good, however the service was not. I came here for dinner with my partner & our 11-month-old baby. They provided a high chair for her, which we appreciated. We ordered drinks & after waiting for our food for 45 minutes the server confessed that our order had been given to another table & assured us they would prepare our crêpes immediately. In the end, we waited over an hour for 2 crêpes which we hardly had the time to eat & took the rest to go since it was way past our daughter's bed time. To compensate for the inconvenience, our server offered us 20% off our bill & the second beer on the house. However, we saw more than 3 groups of people arrive after us & leave before us. It felt like our server had forgotten about us but insisted we had to pay for our food since in the end we ate the food they brought us, to which I responded that this did not seem reasonable under the circumstances. We didn't have much of a choice since it was already close to 9pm at this point. The server indicated that if we had an issue, she could call her supervisor but that it would take an hour for her to get there. Of course, we did not have the luxury of time to wait for a resolution so we paid & left.
If you have no time constraints, the food is good. If you have less than an hour to eat, don't come here!

TLDR: food was good, service was not

Honestly the main complaint was that the crepe was a bit tough. But the staff was friendly & everything tasted fine. There just wasn't anything that really stood out as truly excellent.
