Food was overall quite good. However, I had had higher expectations given the price. For 2 starters, 2 mains, & 3 drinks, the cost was $150 before tips. In Ottawa or Montreal, you would be able to get better vegan food for this price. Another issue for me was the bathroom - it was disgusting with multiple flies in each stall (& it wasn't even a hot day at 15 degrees!) Here are detailed reviews for each dish: - DONplings: they were okay. I would've preferred them deep fried than pan-fried. - Thai soup: very good with the right flavours. However, it did not rival my favourite Thai soups in Ottawa that costed less. The tofu cubes in the soup were marinated but did not go well with the soup. - Mushrooms linguine: rich, creamy, & flavourful. It was my favourite dish of the meal. - Two squash risotto: delicious at first bite, but it got boring quickly after. It reminded me of a specific brand of veggie bouillon I would buy at grocery stores & make soups with. Not impressed. - drinks: I got a mocktail named La Pina. It tasted really good with pineapple flavours. But it was so sweet that I gave it up after slowly sipping on half the glass.
The most wonderful experiences I've had as a vegan while eating outside of my own home! Also, being from the states, I have yet to find a spot here that tops this one! I made visits here for four days straight while in town, & tried several different dishes & all were a hit for me aside from one that just didn't sit right on my palate(curry masala) but literally EVERYTHING else was extremely delicious, satisfying, & well presented. The burrito bowl & Tostada Don have to be my favorites because of the BBQ Jackfruit which was chef's kiss! I love that the burrito bowl is so filling! I almost couldn't finish it but it tastes so good that I couldn't not finish it! Another top dish was the creamy gnocchi, yum! The staff was just lovely, very pleasant & helpful. I can't wait to go back! I'm craving it now while typing this! This is the only place I ate at my entire visit! I would eat here everyday if I could!
Je recommande mille fois Le Don. C'est la deuxième fois que je viens en peu de temps & ma satisfaction lors de ma première venue n'était pas due au hasard. Le menu est varié, les assiettes sont colorées, tout est extrêmement bien assaisonné & les combinaisons sont parfois insolites mais réussies. Ici on mange de la vraie cuisine, qui plus est vegan, & il ne s'agit pas juste d'une salade. Tout est méticuleusement préparé & le plaisir gustatif est incroyable! Plutôt classique dans mon choix la première fois, j'ai cette fois osé commander le bowl au fruit du jacquier, fruit qui m'est totalement inconnu. C'était un régal ! Je n'en dis pas plus si ce n'est qu'il faut vous laisser tenter par l'expérience !! & le cheesecake cajou betterave framboise était délicieux également ! Beaucoup de restaurants non vegan n'arrivent pas à la cheville du Don alors bravo!! Vous risquez d'en convertir plus d'un!
My wife & I aren't vegan, but like to try different foods, so we stopped in at this place for a late small lunch. The food was super fresh, especially if you need a break from the ubiquitous Quebec poutine. Service was fast & friendly, & the restaurant itself is super cool & cozy.
THE FOOD IS GOOD! We're not vegans, but we wanted to try some new stuff & we were not disappointed at all! We tried the dumplings & the tostadas for starter, then we had the gnocchis & the burrito bowl. They also have a good wine selection. Really enjoyed this place!
Un peu déçu par cette adresse, nous y sommes allés pour un brunch. L'assiette manquait à mes yeux un peu de consistance pour le prix, ce que j'ai mangé étais correct mais pas transcendant. J'imagine que le prix se justifie sans doutes par la qualité des produits (ce que j'apprécie & respecte) & la localisation mais malheureusement c'est une déception pour moi qui ne suis normalement pas un gros mangeur mais qui suis resté sur ma faim, en termes de quantité & de goût, y compris le café. Cependant mes amis m'ont dit que les plats sont plus copieux & bons donc peut-être à éviter pour un brunch & re-tenter pour un repas. Ça reste agréable d'avoir une adresse de nourriture vegan :) Je retenterais cette adresse pour un dîner en espérant m'être trompé sur ce brunch !
