We did booked a table for after lunch tea, coffee, & dessert. They sat us with a good table with a view to the river. The hostess & our server were both friendly, professional, & attentive.
We cannot judge about the main dishes. May be next time when we try them & update the review more accurately.
Outstanding restaurant. The food was gourmet quality & the service impeccable. The setting is elegant & tasteful & the view os the St. Lawrence River was peaceful & satisfying.
Bistro Le Sam is located on the lobby level of the Chateau Frontenac. It offers beautiful views of the river & a decent selection of food & drink. The prices are high but that's kind of a given considering its location. We were staying at the hotel so we visited a few times & had great service each time. The bar makes delicious margaritas.
Quality ingredients & beautiful presentation. Attentive servers. Stunning view over the river.
What a fabulous lunch! First of all we had the best seat in the house with a river view. They were lovely about accommodating gluten free. Our lobster rolls were huge & delicious. Couldn't have been nicer.
We didn't make a reservation & got lucky as a walk-in. We came here on a Saturday afternoon (1PM), group of 5 adults with two kids & they had space! The hostess gave us the table overlooking the St. Lawrence River & we really enjoyed our view. We didn't order much & just wanted to snack so we got an order of Salmon Tartare & Two dozen oysters with a cocktails each. Our bill came out to around $420 which was expensive but I guess you're paying for the view. The service was okay, it's a bit mediocre considering the price you paid but it's ok. The cocktails were all unique & we didn't order one that we didn't like. The best one would be the Zenquiri & the Cafecito. We won't be coming back for the food but the cocktails for sure!
We had to wait a bit before entry, but after entering, the whole experience was unforgettable & one of the best dining experiences.
The table overseeing Dufferin Terrace & the river was the perfect spot, our server Marco was attentive, friendly, & helpful with explanations to all my questions.
All the food we ordered was amazing with fresh ingredients.
Definitely strongly recommended to make a reservation in advance, & ask for the window side table.
The hype about the French onion soup is real! & the seafood casserole! I hadn't read the reviews before ordering, but glad we ordered these two dishes. We also enjoyed the flank steak! The fish & chips that my son ordered from the kids menu was high quality & delicious (which is very rare), & the piece of cod was bigger than his face!
I had made a note on the reservation for my husband's birthday, & they sat us right by the window with an amazing view overlooking the St. Lawrence River & the Dufferin Terrace. They also treated us with a delicious & beautifully decorated dessert for my husband's bday, which was a pleasant surprise.
Our server was attentive & friendly, & he even found a special'fancy cup' for my son's lemonade which made his day! Thank you for making this a lovely evening to remember!
A memorable lunch inside the Château Frontenac
Le Sam is not just about the view - though the panoramic windows overlooking the St. Lawrence River are absolutely stunning - the food holds its own. We had lunch here & everything from service to plating felt refined yet unpretentious.
Here's what we ordered & loved:
Grilled asparagus - Lightly charred & drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette, a refreshing starter.
Salmon tartare - Fresh, clean flavors with a nice crunch from the chips. Simple & elegant.
Pork ribs - Tender & flavorful, with a sweet BBQ-style glaze. Very comforting.
Bavette steak - Rich & meaty with just the right chew, well-executed & satisfying.
Filet mignon with foie gras - The highlight of the meal. Perfectly cooked tenderloin topped with seared foie gras that simply melts in your mouth. Luxurious & unforgettable.
Service was attentive but never rushed, & the ambiance - elegant, sunlit, & relaxed - made the whole experience feel special.
💡Tip: Book ahead & request a window seat - the view adds so much to the experience.
Whether you're staying at the Château or just visiting Old Quebec, Le Sam is worth a stop for a scenic & delicious me
Le Sam Bistro, located within the magnificent Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, provided us with an exceptional dining experience that perfectly complemented our luxurious stay. As hotel guests, we were looking forward to enjoying a meal in-house, & Le Sam certainly didn't disappoint.
The ambiance of the bistro was both elegant & relaxed, with stylish interiors & large windows that created a warm, inviting atmosphere. From our table, we were able to enjoy a breathtaking view of the St. Lawrence River, which added an unforgettable backdrop to our dining experience & made our meal feel even more special.
We started with the fried calamari, which was crispy on the outside & tender inside-expertly seasoned & served with a flavourful dipping sauce. For small bites, we also shared the baby back ribs glazed with bbq & whisky sauce. The standout dish for us was the fish & chips, served with a creative twist: we added foie gras to elevate the dish. The result was indulgent & memorable-the richness of the foie gras paired beautifully with the crispy, flaky fish.
Service was attentive, making the entire meal enjoyable. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful lunch. Dining at Le Sam Bistro was a highlight of our time at the Château Frontenac, & we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality meal paired with exceptional views in the heart of Quebec City.
