It was 11:30 am on a Tuesday & we were looking for lunch near the Fairmont Hotel. We'd eaten at Bistro Le Sam in 2022, so we knew the food would be good, albeit pricey.
We didn't have a reservation, so we could not be seated near the windows overlooking the terrace. We were seated in a comfy half round booth.
I ordered the Caesar Salad with Chicken. My wife ordered the French Onion Soup & the Lobster-Crab Arancini.
My salad was excellent. Her soup was also excellent. Her Lobster-Crab Aranacini was not good. It was mostly devoid of any seafood at all.
French onion soup was great , cocktails were good ($28 for a basic cocktail better be good) ,
Pork ribs on the other hand were dry & old , definitely not cooked on a same day, it would have been okay at a cheap neighborhood pub for like $23 , but it definitely not okay when you charging $45 for them.
The hype about the French onion soup is real! & the seafood casserole! I hadn't read the reviews before ordering, but glad we ordered these two dishes. We also enjoyed the flank steak! The fish & chips that my son ordered from the kids menu was high quality & delicious (which is very rare), & the piece of cod was bigger than his face!
I had made a note on the reservation for my husband's birthday, & they sat us right by the window with an amazing view overlooking the St. Lawrence River & the Dufferin Terrace. They also treated us with a delicious & beautifully decorated dessert for my husband's bday, which was a pleasant surprise.
Our server was attentive & friendly, & he even found a special'fancy cup' for my son's lemonade which made his day! Thank you for making this a lovely evening to remember!
Well.. They unfortunately changed their menu 2 weeks ago. So sorry to see that they reduced size of the cheese on their French onion soup. That soup was the best in Quebec but not any more. Still I'll give an okay score but I am very much disappointed by the change of the menu. :(
We had a wonderful dining experience! Annie provided amazing service, making us feel welcome & taken care of throughout our meal. She even brought fresh cut ginger for my wife who wasn't feeling well. The vegetarian soups were absolutely delicious-full of flavor & very satisfying. I also really enjoyed the drinks, which paired perfectly with the meal. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food & service!
Thank you Annie, pleasure meeting you & enjoyed your service!!!!
We had a nice dining experience at Bistro Le Sam. Recommend booking ahead & requesting the alcove seating...the high top seats did not look comfortable. I had the smoked meat which is actually a sliced brisket sandwich. I had that & the French onion soup, both were tasty but very salty. My wife had the flank steak & said it was pretty tough, & salty as well. It's a bit pricey being in the Chateau Frontenac but overall worthy of the 4 stars
