Review Summary

L'Échaudé is widely regarded as a staple in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic French cuisine and charming atmosphere. Many diners praise the exceptional quality of dishes such as the duck confit, scallops, and beef tartare, noting that the food often balances creativity and tradition. While the service is frequently described as professional, attentive, and welcoming, some experiences are occasionally impacted by longer wait times or inconsistent pacing during busy periods. The restaurant offers a variety of dining options, including a pleasant terrace and a cozy interior, making it a popular destination for both special occasions and casual visits. Although individual preferences regarding portion sizes and flavor profiles vary, the overall consensus highlights L'Échaudé as a memorable and high quality culinary destination.

Our first visit to Quebec in a decade, & this restaurant continues to excite us, & remains our favorite in the city. Wonderful fresh oysters, the best duck confit of all time, crispy skin arctic char, & a miraculous dessert named "the perfect bite." From the fine French-dominated wine list, we selected the Morgan from Louis Claude Desvignes. Perfect fit for both the duck & the fish. Friendly, helpful, unhurried service. Pleasant ambiance & outdoor tables for nice weather. We will return.

We had a lovely time at l'Échaudé! Everything was excellent; we started with drinks & the mozzarella di buffala before moving on to our mains. We ordered the Guinea fowl & duck confit, which were absolutely gorgeous & so tasty. We finished our meal with a crème brûlée. The atmosphere, service, food & its presentation were all wonderful & we will most certainly return on our next visit to Old Quebec.

We had an enjoyable dinner with friends. The service was attentive & helpful. The charcuterie plate appetizer was nice for sampling with four people. The duck confit was excellent, & ample in portion size. The rabbit dish was unusual - the meat was very, very soft - maybe cooked via the sous vide method (?) - so not to everyone's taste - but the accompanying carrots were delicious. The salmon tartare was also excellent. The wine list was extensive. We would be happy to dine there again on our next trip to Quebec City.

This was a recommendation from a friend who has eaten here often, but unfortunately, we did not have a great experience. On the plus side: my friend loved his duck confit/spaetzle, & my boyfriend was very happy with his veal liver. On the negative side: 3 of us ordered oysters, & only one of us had a plate where they were ALL shucked. Two spent most of the time trying to pry the oysters out of their shells. My friend ordered the beef filet mignon & was disappointed that it was so tough. I ordered the 3 appetizer combo. While my oysters were wonderful & perfectly shucked, & my broccoli soup was excellent, the Waldorf salad was SO disappointing. A tiny mound of what looked like soggy coleslaw - overdressed & too much vinegar. It definitely did not look or taste like any Waldorf salad I have ever eaten. & service-wise... the boys received excellent service; the girls had a very difficult time getting either waiter's attention. It was very bizarre. In fact, the girls complained that the servers kept leaving the back door open (leading to the coat rack), & there was a terrible draft flowing right to the table. The server waved it off & said that there was no outside door. We had to get up twice to close the door ourselves. I definitely would not recommend this resto to anyone. Sorry.

We had an absolutely perfect meal at L'Échaudé! The restaurant is comfortable, intimate, & refined. The staff were attentive & very welcoming from the moment we walked in the door.

We enjoyed excellent cocktails to begin our meal, followed by a lovely bottle of wine from their extensive selection.

We had a hard time choosing what to eat because everything on the menu looked amazing! We finally decided on a fantastic warm goat cheese & tomato starter, & their elegant version of a Waldorf salad. Our mains were a perfectly-cooked filet & spectacular duck confit - perfect for a cold January evening.

We ended the meal with the Melilot crème brulée, which had a lovely flavor without being overly sweet.

All in all, a perfect evening. We will definitely be returning!

This was our second visit to L'Echaude, & we had an amazing meal. I ordered the duck breast with foie gras mousse & smoked cabbage, which was fantastic. My husband's encrusted tuna with white beans was also delicious. The portions are small, but every bite is to be savored. We shared the s'mores dessert, made with chocolate Grenache & whiskey soaked marshmallows on a homemade graham cookie. Fantastic food, & we will be back next time we visit!

I had steak with vegetables & fries. My hubby had duck breast with blueberry sauce. We were there for lunch. Everything was amazing. My husband said it was his favorite meal on our three city vacation.

This is the third or fourth time we have visited the restaurant & each time we have enjoyed the experience. This time the highlights were the duck three ways & the beef tartare. The service was impeccable from start to finish & we love the atmosphere. We will continue to visit every time we return to Quebec City.

Food & service absolutely flawless - Duck Confit lived up to my partner's
expectations & the flank steak (my choice) - delicious. Midst the snow storm
of the year - a perfectly warm & inviting place.
