Review Summary

L'Échaudé is widely regarded as a staple in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic French cuisine and charming atmosphere. Many diners praise the exceptional quality of dishes such as the duck confit, scallops, and beef tartare, noting that the food often balances creativity and tradition. While the service is frequently described as professional, attentive, and welcoming, some experiences are occasionally impacted by longer wait times or inconsistent pacing during busy periods. The restaurant offers a variety of dining options, including a pleasant terrace and a cozy interior, making it a popular destination for both special occasions and casual visits. Although individual preferences regarding portion sizes and flavor profiles vary, the overall consensus highlights L'Échaudé as a memorable and high quality culinary destination.

Had a thirtieth wedding anniversary there last weekend. Worst meal, service, & ambience during a wonderful stay in a lovely city. Cold, indifferent welcome upon arrival, told we could keep the table for two hours which was not a problem for us. Proceeded to feel rushed through a celebratory meal. Lukewarm lobster bisque with not a morsel of lobster, fussy crouton with a carrot filled crouton which added nothing but fussiness to the taste. Bread arrived after the soup was served. Main course arrived right afterwards even though we had been quite clear with our waiter that we did not want to be rushed as my wife was still savoring her white wine. We explained to the young lady who brought the main course to take it back. Obviously our waiter & the kitchen were not communicating. When my wife ordered red wine & were ready for the main course, the dish that arrived was exactly the same dish that had been kept warmed. Dry beef & potatoes is a culinary faux-pas. The crème brûlée which we ordered was burned caramel, as you can see from the picture with a poor vacant presentation. & to top it off, upon departing, no thank you for coming. Poor experience from what is touted as a top restaurant in Quebec City.

Friendly service, really good food, nice terrace on a quiet street. Wine was overpriced by quite a bit, for that it gets a ding, but it was a great experience overall.

The service was great, staff are kind & well informed about menu, the suggested dinner appetizers & wine were incredible. As a group all of us had our needs met with dietary restrictions. The issue is the seasonal vegetarian dish is far below standard for nutrition, though would be a nice appetizer or side not as a meal.

We've been coming here for over 5 years & they never disappoint. In the summer their terrace is wonderful & in the fall & winter the restaurant has a nice cozy bistro feel.

Service is always attentive but not intrusive. Bistro fare'à son meilleur' & the wine & beverage list is nicely organised on a tablet.

A must when visiting Québec City.

Food was tasteful but rich. Wine list on a tablet which kept freezing & turning off, paper option would be convenient.
The service was very slow, seated at 7:45 & served main meal after 9.
Was recommended by a friend who lives in Quebec City, I think she will be very disappointed about our experience.

Food was exceptionally good.
Scallops ceviche the best I've had, ever.
Smoke sardine superbly balanced.
Pork is a must-have. Will come back for it.
Wines ok.
Dessert - nothing overly sweet, which was nice. But not remarkable, compared to food.

An absolutely incredible experience at this restaurant.

The service was top notch & the food was delicious!

Our waiter was warm, engaging & professional & ensured that we had everything that we needed throughout the night. The kitchen even made my daughter a special pasta supper with fresh vegetables.

The sommelier recommended an amazing wine that we loved.

Will definitely return again!

We came here for the duck confit, but were only told after sitting down that all the duck-related entrées were unavailable for the night. Since it would have been difficult to find another place to eat at the last minute, we decided to stay. For appetizers, we ordered the veal tongue & the cheese plate for two. For our main entrées, we chose the fowl breast, beef tartare, & white fish, accompanied by two glasses of white wine & one cocktail. Unfortunately, none of the dishes were impressive. The cheese from the cheese plate wasn't even as good as the ones I get from the farm, the foie gras was very average, & the sausages were overly salty. For one of the white wines we ordered, there was something floating on the top. After we requested a new one, we noticed the waiter using a filter to strain the wine. We definitely won't be coming back & won't recommend this place to anyone.

This adorable restaurant is in the lower town part of old Quebec. The ambiance is lovely & it's very upscale; with amazing food, wine & service. I would definitely recommend getting their appetizer special, where you get to try 3 appetizers for a fixed price. We enjoyed the charcuterie (which counted as 2 appetizers) & the beef tartare very much. For dinner, the duck was second to none. It was so tender & flavorful. The rib eye for 2 was fantastic also. Our server was helpful & attentive. It was about $380 Canadian dollars for 3 people (with tip), including a bottle of wine.

Great experience. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night but were able to get seats at the bar. From the start the service was exceptional with great advice on the menu & the wines. The food & the wines were really good. It was a very enjoyable meal & experience.
