Review Summary

L'Échaudé is widely regarded as a staple in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic French cuisine and charming atmosphere. Many diners praise the exceptional quality of dishes such as the duck confit, scallops, and beef tartare, noting that the food often balances creativity and tradition. While the service is frequently described as professional, attentive, and welcoming, some experiences are occasionally impacted by longer wait times or inconsistent pacing during busy periods. The restaurant offers a variety of dining options, including a pleasant terrace and a cozy interior, making it a popular destination for both special occasions and casual visits. Although individual preferences regarding portion sizes and flavor profiles vary, the overall consensus highlights L'Échaudé as a memorable and high quality culinary destination.

Getting to the restaurant was a pleasant surprise: a quiet area of a cute street, a nice & cozy heated patio that set our expectations high for a saturday dinner. Too bad it was downhill from there.

The servers seemed rushed & overworked. No bread was served at the table until we asked - & was charged! First time I see this, particularly appaling for a seemingly upscale restaurant. We took the blind 3-service menu as well as 3 other à-la-carte items. Each service was painfully slow.

While presentation is good, quantities & quality severely lacks - specially for the price paid. Server explains that they're tapas-style dishes & that 2-3 plates per person should be enough. The dishes were hit & miss. The only excellent plate was the ris de veau. Everything else was'just fine' at best.

When considering the 80-100$ price tag per person, I cannot in good faith recommend Échaudé. This restaurant has no business being in the Michelin guide.

We sat at the bar & talked to Alexis. He was amazing! He made us the Floral cocktail which was his creation, & also recommended the beef tartare & warm goat cheese 😋 We enjoyed our dinner & great convo.

Food was great, servers very kind but this place can get very busy & they seemed under staffed.. i recommend eating here but just make sure you ask how busy they are as our dinner took a couple hours. No apologies either for missing items & the delay

Food was tasteful but rich. Wine list on a tablet which kept freezing & turning off, paper option would be convenient.
The service was very slow, seated at 7:45 & served main meal after 9.
Was recommended by a friend who lives in Quebec City, I think she will be very disappointed about our experience.

The food came out quickly, hot & well presented. The service however was appalling. Guests were barely acknowledged, it was not busy but it took longer to place my order than for the food to be made. Server didn't know the difference between a chou pastry & filo pastry as she described the dessert feature (which she forgot to tell me about initially). Overall, not what I expected. Would not recommend, unless you have no time restraints & low expectations of service.

So, I had a reservation, but guess what? It's not full, so we get to go in early! & the best part? The food portion is small, so they recommend ordering 2-3 dishes. We ordered 2 dishes to try, & they were delicious! We also ordered the tasting plate for two for desserts, & they were a real treat. We couldn't resist the temptation to try them all!

Of all the variety of restaurants we ate at during our stay in Québec, this one was just okay. I would expect more of a restaurant that claims to be Michelin recommended. Poor plate presentation, & the portion for the sides was small at best.

Additionally there were fruit flies around the table throughout our dinning experience which left us questioning the overall cleanliness.

Thankfully the service was good.

We got lucky & chose this as our first place to eat in Quebec. It was the best by far. The food, the service, the presentation were superb. Worthy of a Michelin star. Can't recommend it high enough.

We happen to be walking by this restaurant a few days ago & stopped to look at the menu. The menu looked good so I made a reservation. we arrived at 6:30 PM & the outside seating was almost full, but it was warm out so we decided to sit inside where it was much cooler. I started out with a glass of Chenin Blanc & my other half had a glass of Sancerre. We ordered some bread to start off. I chose the warm goat cheese over brioche with a sun-dried tapenade & my partner had the lobster carpaccio. Both dishes were excellent! My partner chose the duck confit & I had the pork mignon cutlet for our entrées. Again, both dishes were excellent. We still had room for dessert so we shared the tasting plate for two. It consisted of Tonka, bean, crème brûlée, sugar pie, honey & vanilla ice cream, opera cake. It didn't take us long to finish it! I really wanted to order another one! LOL! As the evening went on the, more people started coming in. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're staying in Quebec city.
