Review Summary

L'Échaudé is widely regarded as a staple in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic French cuisine and charming atmosphere. Many diners praise the exceptional quality of dishes such as the duck confit, scallops, and beef tartare, noting that the food often balances creativity and tradition. While the service is frequently described as professional, attentive, and welcoming, some experiences are occasionally impacted by longer wait times or inconsistent pacing during busy periods. The restaurant offers a variety of dining options, including a pleasant terrace and a cozy interior, making it a popular destination for both special occasions and casual visits. Although individual preferences regarding portion sizes and flavor profiles vary, the overall consensus highlights L'Échaudé as a memorable and high quality culinary destination.

Excellent - service, wine selection, meal. We appreciated the dining room management - seemed to have two sittings for dinner & filled tables in such a way that we weren't sitting immediately beside anyone else. We will definitely return on our next trip to QC.

Very good food, broad wine list.
Had an Irish coffee at end, no evidence of any whiskey in the coffee!

Beautiful atmosphere, great wine selection, very friendly waitress. Beef shoulder was somewhat tough & was unable to eat approximately half of it.

We've been coming to Quebec City for more than 20 years. L'Échaudé is always on our "must go" list. Once again, the service, food, wine & ambiance were top-rate.

My last 2 reviews were 5 stars at different restaurants in Quebec City. I am not writing this to negatively impact this business but just an honest review. We ordered the 3 appies for $45. Not a bad deal considering we had the seared bluefin tuna, the quail & the lamb. Overall presented well, good taste(especially the mushroom sauce with the quail was packed with flavour). We ordered a bottle of wine & their list ranges from moderately pricey to very pricey & overall good value. The major disappointment was the main. The blood pudding was ok at best. Not sure why the cabbage was undercooked with this mash of blood pudding that came spewing out when you try to cut it. The rib of the cabbage was tough to chew. Underseasoned but nicely presented. I liked the grilled squash. The worst one was the guinea fowl. The first dish was overcooked, like rubber & overly salted ( was it the brine?). We sent it back, 2nd one same thing. It was certainly the meat as everything else was not overly salty. 2nd dish they cooked the fowl better but i couldn't finish it was it was too salty. Lastly the service was moderate at best. I've had better in QC & I don't want to say more but this wasn't the service that we expected based on the reviews. We could tell that there was way more energy put at other tables. Not sure what the problem was but disappointed. I wouldn't recommend, personally as there are better imo.

Everything was wonderful at this restaurant last night. Right from the moment we walked in the door, we felt very welcome. Our server was kind, efficient, funny & very accommodating & our food was spectacular. The goat cheese with tomato tapenade was terrific, my beef shoulder was delicious & cooked perfectly & my husband thoroughly enjoyed his halibut & flounder dish. I had the frangipane for dessert & my husband had the chocolate cake & both were beautifully presented & terrific. We shared a small cheese plate, which was great, & our server recommended a wonderful wine, so our meal was complete. Highly recommended!!

We enjoyed the most relaxing & delicious meal at L'Èchaudé. Being one of the few non pub style restaurants in the city open on a Tuesday we were pleased to snag a reservation. The menu had a great selection & we enjoyed our foie gras appetizer, ahi tuna & flank steak. Great service from of lovely server (Pierre ?) who brought wine pairing by the glass for each course. Would happily return, Merci !
