The menu features hearty breakfast bowls layered with roasted potatoes, melted cheeses, and premium meats alongside fruit-topped pancakes. Patrons encounter a bustling atmosphere defined by light-filled interiors and functional seating arrangements suitable for groups or individuals. Signature offerings include protein-packed omelets, stuffed French toast, and various egg-based preparations that anchor the brand identity. The kitchen prioritizes consistent execution across a wide range of comfort-focused plates that rely on classic culinary techniques. This establishment operates as a standardized chain known for reliable, large-portion portions that cater to diverse appetites through an expansive and accessible menu selection.
Ben & Florentine receives mixed feedback, with many patrons praising the generous portion sizes, flavorful breakfast options, and generally friendly service that keeps regulars coming back. While some guests highlight excellent, efficient experiences and a welcoming atmosphere, others report significant inconsistencies such as long wait times, cold food, and occasional errors in the kitchen. Although the quality of ingredients and variety of the menu are often commended, experiences can vary greatly depending on the timing and the specific staff members on duty, leading to a divide between those who highly recommend the restaurant and those frustrated by service lapses.
We had an amazing brunch at Ben & Florentine! From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, & attentive. The food was fresh, beautifully presented, & absolutely delicious.
One of the things we loved most was the variety of menu options. Whether you're in the mood for classic breakfast favorites, sweet pancakes & waffles, healthy choices, or hearty brunch dishes, there's something for everyone. The portions were generous, & everything was cooked perfectly.
This was one of the best brunch experiences we've had in Quebec City, & we will definitely be back the next time we're in the area. Highly recommended!
?📝 My Experience:
We stopped in hoping for a nice late breakfast, as our previous visit here was quite enjoyable & the food was good, albeit a little on the expensive side at $61. Unfortunately, we ended up turning around & leaving before even sitting down due to the poor treatment we received regarding spatial accommodations. It is highly unlikely we will ever return after being made to feel so unwelcome.
?🤝 Customer Service:
?The Staff:
The young server who initially greeted us was very polite, professional, & cheerfully asked for our party size. However, an older server quickly & rudely interrupted the interaction, completely shifting the atmosphere with a dismissive & negative attitude.
?Access Rights:
When I requested a table that would properly accommodate my Service Dog, the older server was entirely unaccommodating. She inexplicably claimed that several perfectly suitable, empty tables were already'taken' & would only offer us a single spot in what she herself described as a'busy area.'
?🚪 Accessibility & Environment:
?Physical Layout:
It was incredibly bizarre & frustrating to be denied a suitable table when literally half of the restaurant was completely empty during our late breakfast visit. There was more than enough physical space to comfortably & unobtrusively seat a working dog team without blocking any pathways.
?Sensory & Safety:
Attempting to force a handler & a Service Dog into a high-traffic'busy area' when quieter, spacious sections are readily available shows a complete lack of situational awareness. It creates an unnecessary hassle & disregards the basic safety considerations required for working animals.
?🐾 Doggo's Verdict:
It's very disappointing when a restaurant fails to understand simple spatial accommodations for a working team. We'd much rather take our business to a place that truly respects & welcomes us, rather than one that makes us feel like a burden!
In many ways, the work of the breakfast critic is easy.
We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their eggs, their potatoes, & their toast to our judgment.
We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write & enjoyable to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of breakfast, the average plate is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.
There are times, however, when a critic truly risks something. & that is in the discovery & defense of the new.
Last morning, I experienced something new: an unexpectedly satisfying breakfast from Ben & Florentine, listed humbly beneath the cheerful promise of a Quebec brunch menu.
To say that both the meal & the moment challenged my expectations is a gross understatement.
They have rocked me to my core.
In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for the familiar breakfast chain: the bottomless coffee, the laminated menu, the potatoes that appear beside every plate as if required by provincial law.
But I realize now, only now, that not every breakfast can become great.
But a great breakfast can come from anywhere.
It is difficult to imagine humbler origins for such satisfaction than a chain breakfast plate in Quebec: eggs, toast, potatoes, coffee, & a modest apple compote standing by like witnesses to the miracle.
I hope to return to Ben & Florentine soon.
Hungry for more.

This breakfast place has a relaxed atmosphere & friendly service. I really enjoyed my omellete & the big coffee. This was our first impression of Quebec cuisine & it did not fail! I would be back again if it wasn't for the 6 hour drive. Excellent place to try, you won't be disappointed.
This type of restaurant is fairly common in the area. Unfortunately, this is not one of the better ones. The hollandaise was not as fresh tasting as others. The burger, while not a typical breakfast item, was particularly disappointing.
