Best meals, service & atmosphere of all restaurants we went to in Old Quebec City. The staff are warm, welcoming & so accommodating, & everything we had there was melt-in-your-mouth. Fine dining while being casual & relaxed. My mother had beef cheeks that just fell apart with her fork. I had sweet breads that were beautifully prepared & perfectly creamy. My food allergies were also carefully accommodated. & the dessert... tarte tatin with a homemade caramel sauce. I don't typically choose fruit desserts, but we went with our server's recommendation (the mention of caramel sauce may have swayed us a bit too...). This is a must try!!! You would have never known there had been food in our plates once we were done. Five-star food, not enough stars in the rating tool for the people! You are treated like an old friend by all of the staff while you are there. Thank you to the St-Malo staff for making our evening with you one of the highlights of our trip to Quebec City.
Great food, the recommended beef cheeks were spot on, delicious! Fantastic service even though it was only one server due to other being out sick. Highly recommend!
Excellent choice especially for first night in Vieux Quebec. Food was amazing from escargot to seafood stew & beef cheeks. Apple dessert was truly decadent.
My husband & I had dinner here. The food & service were excellent! Our server was kind, friendly & attentive. The food was absolutely delicious & the portions were great. We enjoyed the osso buco & beef cheek. Both were very flavourful & tender. The Sauvignon Blanc we had was great too. Overall, a great meal, great service & well priced. The best meal we had in Quebec City. Highly recommend if you're visiting the area. You won't be disappointed.
Absolutely fabulous food & service! I had the beef cheeks & they were like butter no knife needed very good portion too. For dessert the Tarte Tatin is a MUST!!
Flavour city! This place is a must check out in Quebec city! Everything we got was packed with umami flavour; insanely delicious! 🤤 We booked a reservation for 6pm on Friday & the place filled up quite quickly so it is advisable to book a reservation to make sure you get a seat. There were some walk ins though & they were able to dine but always good to be safe!
To start we got a French onion soup 🧅🧀 & an order of escargots 🧀🐌. The French onion soup was cheesy & delicious, lots of chopped cooked onions & a ton of cheese! The escargots were buttery smooth & cooked perfectly with a layer of cheese to top the entire dish! 🧀🐌 Delicious starters to your meal if you are interested to try
For the mains, the first order we got an order of the Beef Cheek with vegetables cooked in duck fat 🐄🦆🥕🥔! This main is incredible it is packed with umami, savory saltiness & sweetness from the carrots. The beef cheeks were so incredibly soft you could eat everything with a spoon! I would 100% recommend getting this dish to try you will not be disappointed! We loved the flavour so much we asked if we could take the leftover sauce to go so that we could eat it with dipped bread! 🍞🥖
The second order we got was the Rabbit Rissoto 🐰, this dish was very tender & cooked perfectly. The rabbit leg was tender & moist on the inside & the risotto was cooked perfectly. Cooked with some zucchini & herbs so that you can get some greens! If you are feeling some Rissoto this is the dish for you! On a side note I do find that rabbit tastes like chicken 🐔🐰for those of you who haven't had rabbit before
The last main we got was the Cassoulet which is a Duck Confit & sausage stew, cooked for 10 hours 🦆! So delicious, as people probably know duck confit is a very popular dish with the French & this one was again very delicious. The duck was moist & tender like all the other dishes everything was cooked with beans in the stew. The flavours meshed together extremely well giving you an all around perfect flavour profile 🦆
For dessert we got the tarte tartin which is like a baked apple turnover drizzled with maple syrup & a scoop of vanilla ice cream 🍎🍦! Very delicious & a great way to end the meal! Luckily we parked about 15 minutes away so that helped us digest everything!
All in all, great customer service, amazingly cooked food & a very vibrant atmosphere for dinner! Great place for a date or even a small family meal. They offer seating outside aswell & there is an upper level with additional seating
This little place is unassuming, but was a very good experience. The atmosphere was very casual but the food was rich & delicious. We started with the parmesan Dijon mussels which is not normally a sauce we would choose for mussels, but we took a chance & were not disappointed. Next, the pork osso bucco was very tasty & although not beef, the dish was rich with flavor & the meat fell off the bone. The duck confit was just as delicious & melted in your mouth. We also had the beef tartare. It was good, but probably would not order this again off of this menu because other menu items were better. Although the place was very busy the service was good as well.
We were in town for 4 days & this was our favorite meal. We will return when in Quebec City again. Thank you for a lovely meal!
The service was very good, we ordered a few appetizers : french onion soup (very hood not too salty & the cheese on top is delicious) , snail is also good, frois gros is lighter than what I am used to but still very delicious. I think the least my liking is beef tartare. The casserole is hot & very tasty especially the duck confit is tender. Overall I would recommend the bistro st malo
