The service was excellent, my tartare was not great, but the fries & salad were delicious, my husband loved his French onion soup & his steak, our creme brûlée was very good. We enjoyed our dinner & our server, we didn't get his name, made it extra enjoyable.

We were to be in Quebec City just two nights & had done our research & decided we wanted authentic French cuisine & picked St-Malo after reading the great reviews. As the only available table inside was right at the back near the kitchen & bar., we took a little table in front where we enjoyed watching the world go by.
The staff bent over backwards to make us happy. I'm a scotch drinker & the chef offered me a shot of his very own personal 12 year old single malt scotch whisky. It was delicious. This was a great start to an excellent dinner. My wife loves onion soup & was not disappointed, calling it the best she'd had (& I make a pretty fine onion soup!). She followed that with Mussels Marina, which she said were perfect. I had the octopus salad to start which was delicious. Their on-line menu offers a Cassoulet which I was looking forward to as I can't find a good one in Toronto, but I learned that this was only offered in the winter (I wish they would update their on-line menu to current offerings). The server suggested the beed cheek & I enjoyed. Many of the wines on their wine list are not currently available since covid but the server brought us a couple of other tasters to try that were not on the wine list & we settled on a delicious California Cabernet Sauvignon.
My wife & I have eaten in many fine dining restaurants over the decades but now we prefer friendly little bistros with good authentic food & this is what you get at Bistro St-Malo. Excellent food & service that won't break your wallet.

Very pleasant dining experience. Solid French faire , great atmosphere. Fantastic dessert!

This is not tourustic, this restaurant is a must when you come to Quebec city! Cheff are very talented in real french cuisine !

Great cozy atmosphere & taste of local French cuisine, which is what we were seeking. We really enjoyed our nice dinner here. Merci!

A only slightly hidden gem! Under new ownership since late 2018, the owner-chef & his family staff present a lovely French cottage atmosphere in this intimate setting & produce true gourmet dining at ridiculously reasonable prices. Find & try this one before the secret gets out & the lines form!

I'm giving this restaurant five stars because the food was really, really good. The catch of the day (salmon) came with a gnocchi that we wished we could order a whole plate of; the seafood pasta was delicious & came with a ton of scallops & mussels; & the braised pork was also a great dish. The homemade ice cream with apple pie is something I'd like to order again. Overall, I'm definitely recommending my friends to make a reservation here if ever in Quebec City. The only down-sides were that there was no bread served at this restaurant at dinner (steamed mussels came with french fries), & the service was a little slow (it looked like there were only two servers working the place on a Friday night).

Excellent moules in a very French but not cheezy atmosphere, & with much cheerier service than i associate with France. The only trouble was the risk to my daughter if drowning in the left-over chocolate fondue.
