Me sentí discriminado y maltratado
The food was very good, & I especially enjoyed the premium wine pairing.
I had seen some reviews mentioning slow pacing, but that was not my experience. I had the four-course tasting menu with foie gras added à la carte, & I was finished in about 90 minutes.
Service was good overall. However, there was one point where the wine pairing for the halibut was not brought out with the dish. I flagged down my server & received it shortly after, so it was not a big issue.
My main disappointment was the seating. I had called a few days before to request a window table overlooking the river. I was told they would try but that it was not guaranteed, which I understood. What bothered me was that even as I was being taken to my table, no one mentioned that they had not been able to accommodate the request. I only found out after I asked about it. It made me feel like the issue was being brushed under the rug rather than addressed directly. I would have appreciated a quick heads-up beforehand, or at least being told before I was seated.
Despite the food & ambience being excellent, the way the seating request was handled left a bad impression & makes me hesitant to return.
We stopped by Sunday morning before the kids' soccer game & were seated right away even though the place was already filling up. The maple syrup infused dishes on the brunch menu were a hit, my son cleaned his plate of the pancakes without complaining once. Our server was patient with the kids picking at the menu & even brought crayons over without us asking. It's a bit of a splurge for a casual family breakfast but the view of the Plains of Abraham from our table made it worth every penny.
Had an amazing experience at this restaraunt. Shared the 55 day dry aged Ribeye with my travel buddy, which was next level amazing. Our hostess Luna, & our waitress were spot on awesome!
I highly recommend this place to eat.
Be prepared for the cost. The experience is worth it though
We visited with a group of 11 to celebrate a special 80th birthday as well as other joint 50th birthdays. The whole experience was incredible with an amazing location & the staff & waiters were very friendly, charming & welcoming.
We mostly ordered the 4 course taster menu with some ordering individual dishes.
The food was incredible as you would expect from this level of restaurant. The wine pairing was also perfect with great wines from unexpected countries like Greece & Croatia.
The reason for my rating of 3 for the service is due to a few mistakes in our order. We were offered great flexibility with the choices of the taster menu, which was great as some of our group were not keen on some of the standard dishes like the Veal Tartare. When the first course arrived, three of the dishes that should have been the alternative to the Veal were served the Veal, which meant they had to be replaced straight away.
One of our group was also served the dishes from the 6 course vegetarian taster menu, when the order was also the 4 course.
The overall timing of the service was also extremely slow. Altogether, the service took 3 & a half hours, with breaks of around 30-40 minutes between each course, which is extremely long for taster dishes that are relatively small.
I only later found out that this is a Michelin star restaurant, which is mainly the reason for my review, as I would not expect various mistakes in the order & the long waiting from a Michelin star restaurant.
Champlain is a true fine dining experience. We originally were on the inside, but wanted a window seat. In order to get one, you have to get the tasting menu, which we did. All the courses on the tasting menu were excellent. The standout for me was the beef with morel mushrooms. I chose the wine pairings & they were perfect. The aperitifs were very creative & opened up a new area of taste for me. The service was professional & impeccable. Combined with the ambience & the view from our table, I found Champlain ro be a most enjoyable experience.
