Guests frequently praise the imaginative tasting menus that highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients with artistic flair and great attention to detail, including thoughtful accommodations for dietary restrictions. While perspectives on the value and portion sizes vary, many patrons find the culinary journey and the expertise of the sommelier team to be exceptional, making it a standout destination for special occasions in Quebec City.
Been there, done that!
Magnifique restaurant, accueil (& non service) chaleureux & excellente sommelière.
We dined here for my birthday & it was disappointing unfortunately. Although I did receive a card for the occasion which I think is a cute & personal touch. We were promptly greeted by friendly staff & were seated. We ordered our drinks & upon receiving them ordered the tasting menu. At one point we were informed that our meals would not be fired until we were halfway through our drinks. At this point we did ask for it to get started but that was not that case. As we worked our way through our drinks we were then told that now our meals would be fired. As someone who is a non drinker 99% of the time I felt a pressure to quickly drink my beverage as we wanted our meal to begin. We did not receive our first dish until nearly an hour & the entire meal was about 2.5 hours. I would say the service was friendly but mixed & the dishes were fine but would have benefited from further finesse (more seasoning, acid, fat, & consistent cooking). The duck in particular was incredibly tough & difficult to cut through. I will say that the dessert was incredible & that dish was the stand out star. We specifically booked the 5:30 reservation as the website indicates that the tasting menu is $30 less per person at this time but that was not reflected on our bill. We chose to not mention that & simply pay & leave. Our tip was also less than our general standard as we felt that's what the quality of the food justified. As huge foodies & individuals who have worked in the industry for several years the price point unfortunately did not match the quality of the product. Overall friendly staff, mediocre food. Unique ideas & concept but could use improvement.
This was a special occasion—my husband's 40th birthday—& Chez Muffy did not disappoint! The food was incredible, especially the imaginative desserts which we loved. The appetizers & main dishes were stellar as well. & the wait staff made the night incredibly special. Amazing evening all around.
When we arrived to the restaurant, the table was not ready so we were told to wait in the corridor. After 25min wait & no one even offering us a drink we were finally seated. We were given the menu & wine list after selecting what we wanted the waiter told us the menu was different & we had to choose something else. We also ordered a bottle of wine the sommelier took a long time to come & serve us. The wine was corked so he went to get another bottle however it was not cold. He tried to cool it but by this time we were already two courses in to the meal. The food served was nice but not well balanced our starter tasted more like a dessert. By the end of our main course the wine was finally at a nice temperature to drink ashame considering the price. We paid for the meal at the end & left a tip but apparently the tip was not good enough for the waiter who made a scene in the middle of the restaurant. He informed us that in quebec you have to tip at least 15%. When did tipping become mandatory! Or a waiter feel he can ask for more money the most shocking experience.
Unfortunately our reservation was at 8 but we were not seated until 830. We were not offered any comp for the delay & it did seem to impact our service after. Food was mostly good to very good but the peach dessert really missed pretty badly. The bread was not in any way worthy of a place at such an expensive table. Our server was quite good but hampered by the circumstances. No maitre'd to fix things. Unfortunate. Really unfortunate when one compares to 5 or so years ago when Muffy was firing on all cylinders.
