La Buche offers a vibrant and authentic dining experience that captures the heart of traditional Quebecois cuisine. Guests frequently praise the warm, festive atmosphere and the eclectic decor, which includes a notably unique washroom design. While the menu features hearty, comfort-focused dishes such as poutine, tourtière, and various maple-inspired desserts, the attentive and friendly staff consistently enhance the visit. Although the popularity of the restaurant can lead to bustling crowds and the need for reservations, many visitors find the overall quality of the food and the lively cultural immersion well worth the experience.
La Bûche was incredible! If I could give it ten stars, I would. The atmosphere was very cool & the staff were friendly & efficient. We sat on the back patio which was lovely. The food was INCREDIBLE. It was the best breakfast we had in Quebec! I had the French toast, which was the best French toast I've ever tried, & my husband had the Quebec crepes & bacon, which was delicious as well. We'll be back!
I picked this restaurant because of its good ratings (it is one of the highest rated restaurants in the area) & its offering of Quebec food. To book a table at this restaurant online, you need to provide credit card info for a cancelation fee of $25 per person. Given this policy, I figured the restaurant must be popular so I was rather looking forward to dining here. The restaurant has a distinct style, but it is crowded & it is not air-conditioned. We were there on a hot day &, even though we were seated next to the window, we felt uncomfortable with the heat inside the restaurant. They served us a complimentary plate of pork rinds with pickled cucumber & beets to start. I didn't like the pork rinds, but I think that's more due to the personal preference; I really enjoyed the pickled cucumbers & beets, on the other hand. We ordered a cheese platter to share, a bison sandwich for my partner, & a meat pie for myself. The cheese platter was quite good; I enjoyed all four types of cheese that came with the platter, though the blue cheese & the goat cheese were my favourite. The meat pie looked great when it came out, with the puff pastry on the top looking airy & flaky as it should. The puff pastry was good; it was flaky & buttery, & it had the right amount of salt. The meat & the potatoes inside, however, was almost inedible. They were way too salty, especially the potatoes. The salad served on the side had this very sweet dressing that I didn't enjoy. The similar dressing was also used in the bison sandwich, which was also underwhelming. It just had this sweet flavour that easily overpowered very thin slices of bison inside the sandwich. I've always seen bison as the more "beefy" tasting version of beef, but I wouldn't have known there was any inside the sandwich if I hadn't read the menu. The fries served alongside the sandwich were bland, & the coleslaw tasted a bit sour & not very fresh. The server who served us was great, & the service was timely, but we were very disappointed with our experience here overall. Due to the heat & the disappointing taste of our food, we were unable to finish what we ordered & didn't ask for them to be packed. The food is not cheap here; contrary to it being designated as a "$$" restaurant, you should expect to spend at least $50 per person. Given the price & the quality of the food served here, as well as the lack of air conditioning, I can't imagine why this restaurant is so well rated. Overall, I would recommend giving this restaurant a pass, especially during summer.
Place was absolutely packed - & the barkeep said it wasn't even a busy night, so be aware. Food was positively outstanding though, & honestly a big surprise. The deer tartare was unique & delicious, & the French onion soup blew me away out of nowhere - not sure what the cheese was, but it was pungent & almost like a Bleu...surprisingly perfect for it.
Food, service & atmosphere was great. Recommend the salmon tartare & onion soup. Make sure to check out the bathroom. Recommend booking in advance. They have a nice outdoor patio. Recommended!
A very unique place. Though the place was crowded for lunch, they have enough capacity & the wait wasn't that long. Amazing decor - apparently the place's theme is on lumberjacks. Many food choices. Taste is good, nothing extraordinary. But the ambience & excitement makes it special. Parking can be tricky - but there is a lot within a couple of blocks. The street where this is on is a beautiful walk with too many cute shops & interesting artifacts. Also, whether you need it or not, do make a trip downstairs to wash your hands. You will be pleasantly surprised 😊
