We came here on a Saturday afternoon (1PM), group of 5 adults with two kids & they had space! The hostess gave us the table overlooking the St. Lawrence River & we really enjoyed our view. We didn't order much & just wanted to snack so we got an order of Salmon Tartare & Two dozen oysters with a cocktails each. Our bill came out to around $420 which was expensive but I guess you're paying for the view. The service was okay, it's a bit mediocre considering the price you paid but it's ok. The cocktails were all unique & we didn't order one that we didn't like. The best one would be the Zenquiri & the Cafecito. We won't be coming back for the food but the cocktails for sure!
We had a delightful lunch at Le Sam, & we were fortunate to arrive early just before they opened at 11:30-avoiding any wait. The food was solid & satisfying, though not quite exceptional, with a somewhat limited menu. That said, the friendly service made up for it, & the stunning views were absolutely superb. A charming spot worth visiting!
We had such a wonderful experience at Bistro Le Sam when I brought my parents to celebrate my mom's birthday. From the very first call to make the reservation, the service felt warm & welcoming.
When we arrived, we were greeted by two amazing hosts who guided us to our table with a stunning view. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, setting the tone for a perfect afternoon.
We started with a delicious shrimp cocktail to share, followed by lobster arancini, & then a beautiful cheese plate featuring local Québec cheeses. Every dish was so well prepared & flavorful. We also enjoyed some local beers from Québec & a great wine recommendation from our waiter Marc.
Marc was the star of our experience, professional, knowledgeable, & full of great suggestions. He even shared some stories that made the whole meal feel special. He also prepared an incredible non-alcoholic cocktail, like a daiquiri, that my mom truly enjoyed.
For the main course, we had the BBQ whisky pork ribs, which were absolutely delicious & perfect for sharing. We ended the meal with a cheesecake that was the perfect sweet finish.
Everything about this experience was A+ from the food to the drinks to the outstanding service. Bistro Le Sam exceeded all our expectations, & it made my mom's birthday unforgettable. Truly the best experience we've had at the Fairmont Château Frontenac. Highly recommended!
Excellent all around. Great view. We had oysters & rack of lamb special. Both were fabulous.
This was our second time visiting this restaurant. The first time, during Christmas, we had a wonderful experience & were seated by the window. That's why this time, on an important family occasion, we brought our parents here for dinner.
However, to our surprise, we were told that all the window seats had to be pre-reserved, likely due to the fireworks. As visitors from out of town, we felt this was a bit unfair, since OpenTable did not mention any paid option or special reservation note for window seating. We had no way of knowing that window seats were already pre-ordered & unavailable.
Our reservation was at 8:15, but we were only seated at 8:35-& the seating was a very small, makeshift arrangement of three tiny round tables pushed together near the entrance. For a family of five, it was extremely uncomfortable. The hanging lights above each table also became a problem once the tables were combined-two of our family members accidentally hit their heads on the metal lamps, which was unpleasant & even dangerous.
The food was very good, but unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy the view, we waited 20 minutes past our reservation time only to be given cramped temporary seating, two people got hurt by the lights, & the waiting time for dishes was also long. Overall, this visit left us with a disappointing memory compared to our first experience.
The hype about the French onion soup is real! & the seafood casserole! I hadn't read the reviews before ordering, but glad we ordered these two dishes. We also enjoyed the flank steak! The fish & chips that my son ordered from the kids menu was high quality & delicious (which is very rare), & the piece of cod was bigger than his face!
I had made a note on the reservation for my husband's birthday, & they sat us right by the window with an amazing view overlooking the St. Lawrence River & the Dufferin Terrace. They also treated us with a delicious & beautifully decorated dessert for my husband's bday, which was a pleasant surprise.
Our server was attentive & friendly, & he even found a special'fancy cup' for my son's lemonade which made his day! Thank you for making this a lovely evening to remember!
Slow & careless service
Food nothing that impresses, it can be compared to any neighborhood coffee shop. Super over price for the quality & service, in my opinion it is more the fame for the view than what it really is. . I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Servicio lento y descuidado
comida nada que impresione , se puede comparar con cualquier cafetería de vecindario . Súper over price para la calidad y el servicio , en mi opinión es más la fama por la vista que lo que realmente es. . No lo recomendaría a nadie .
A memorable lunch inside the Château Frontenac
Le Sam is not just about the view - though the panoramic windows overlooking the St. Lawrence River are absolutely stunning - the food holds its own. We had lunch here & everything from service to plating felt refined yet unpretentious.
Here's what we ordered & loved:
Grilled asparagus - Lightly charred & drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette, a refreshing starter.
Salmon tartare - Fresh, clean flavors with a nice crunch from the chips. Simple & elegant.
Pork ribs - Tender & flavorful, with a sweet BBQ-style glaze. Very comforting.
Bavette steak - Rich & meaty with just the right chew, well-executed & satisfying.
Filet mignon with foie gras - The highlight of the meal. Perfectly cooked tenderloin topped with seared foie gras that simply melts in your mouth. Luxurious & unforgettable.
Service was attentive but never rushed, & the ambiance - elegant, sunlit, & relaxed - made the whole experience feel special.
💡Tip: Book ahead & request a window seat - the view adds so much to the experience.
Whether you're staying at the Château or just visiting Old Quebec, Le Sam is worth a stop for a scenic & delicious me
Le Sam Bistro, located within the magnificent Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, provided us with an exceptional dining experience that perfectly complemented our luxurious stay. As hotel guests, we were looking forward to enjoying a meal in-house, & Le Sam certainly didn't disappoint.
The ambiance of the bistro was both elegant & relaxed, with stylish interiors & large windows that created a warm, inviting atmosphere. From our table, we were able to enjoy a breathtaking view of the St. Lawrence River, which added an unforgettable backdrop to our dining experience & made our meal feel even more special.
We started with the fried calamari, which was crispy on the outside & tender inside-expertly seasoned & served with a flavourful dipping sauce. For small bites, we also shared the baby back ribs glazed with bbq & whisky sauce. The standout dish for us was the fish & chips, served with a creative twist: we added foie gras to elevate the dish. The result was indulgent & memorable-the richness of the foie gras paired beautifully with the crispy, flaky fish.
Service was attentive, making the entire meal enjoyable. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful lunch. Dining at Le Sam Bistro was a highlight of our time at the Château Frontenac, & we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality meal paired with exceptional views in the heart of Quebec City.
