Food, wine, view, & the service was perfect. We were served my a waitress by the name of Marie-Eve, she was incredibly welcoming, attentive, & made our experience perfect. Exceeded expectations
The atmosphere & ambiance are wonderful. There's a great view over the city, especially at night. We had the ribs & salmon tartare as appetizers. Both were great. I had the seafood casserole & would order again. Lots of seafood & quite tasty. My husband ordered the fish & chips. Coming from Newfoundland & enjoying fresh cod & knowing the difference in cod that has been frozen for some time, this was well frozen cod & quite dry. The waiter couldn't tell us where it was sourced from other than it is "Atlantic", & that means it could have come from Europe! If you're a fan of cod, don't order this. It's not terrible, just not great, especially for the price. Otherwise it was a great experience & would recommend.
Set within the storied walls of the Château Frontenac, SAM Bistro captures the grandeur of Quebec City's most iconic landmark. Its setting is, without question, one of the restaurant's major draws. A reservation is a must if you're hoping to snag a table on the terrace, where panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River provide a breathtaking backdrop to the meal. For those seated deeper within the restaurant, the lively, elegant ambiance remains intact, buoyed by attentive & well-trained staff who lend the experience a polished air of professionalism. But as for the food-one wishes it lived up to its prestigious surroundings. The cod dish & seafood casserole were pleasant enough but lacked the spark that would elevate them to memorable dining. It was a meal that delivered, but without the flair expected in such a setting. This theme of underwhelm was most pronounced with the coffee service: while SAM offers an array of brews, all are machine-made. In a restaurant of this stature, one might expect more care in the details, particularly for something as simple, & potentially transformative, as a freshly prepared cup of coffee. Prices, predictably, trend towards the upper end, though this seems more a reflection of the château's grandeur than of the culinary artistry. SAM is undeniably a place to experience, especially for those eager to take in its sweeping views. But for food that truly matches the majesty of the setting? Perhaps elsewhere.
Luana was an excellent server. Great ambience. Had a table with an amazing view. Cocktails were beautiful & delicious. Food overall was very good. Would return.
Located within the iconic Château Frontenac, Bistro Le Sam offers a dining experience that blends local cuisine with unbeatable views of the St. Lawrence River. Our meal started with the Appetizers Tasting Board, which showcased some notable contrasts. The Quebec Beef tartare was exceptional, with fresh ingredients & perfect seasoning. However, the Seafood Patty & 1608 Cheese fell short, with a dry texture that made it difficult to enjoy. The Baby Back Ribs, while well-cooked, were overly sweet & cloying. On a brighter note, the Cod Fish & Chips was the standout dish of the evening. The batter was light & elegant, perfectly complementing the fresh & flavorful cod. The French fries were crisp, well-seasoned, & truly excellent, elevating the dish to a higher level. I paired the meal with a Blanche Boréale beer, which unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. Its flavor was too reminiscent of cider, which was disappointing for a wheat beer. The service was attentive & professional throughout, ensuring an overall pleasant dining experience. In terms of price, it falls into the mid-to-high range, fitting for the setting & reputation of the establishment, though some dishes could improve in execution to fully justify the cost.
Totally loved our noon lunch on our second day in Quebec. The views were splendid, the food was spot on, & service just right.
Wonderful experience dining inside Fairmont Le Château Frontenac Super friendly server We booked in advance online requesting window seat just stunning view from the restaurant overlooking St L River Great steak, cod & dessert I have potato allergy they substitute carrot puree & it goes well with the steak Definitely a must visit when you come to Old Quebec
Lovely relaxed experience on the terrace, nice view, great food & sensational service by Anne.
Fantastic food with an amazing venue. If reserving, try for the interior alcove for a river view. You can also park at the hotel where the client entry is - it was valet & free! Our waiter Gautier was fantastic - he spoke English & French & was very personable. Took a while for our drinks to come, though. Food was nicely portioned & good quality for the price. We were two adults & a teen, none of us very hungry. We split a burger that came with fries & a side salad, calamari & the starter ribs & could barely finish it. It cost roughly CAD 100.
