About us

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Review Summary

Sagamité offers a unique and memorable culinary experience centered on traditional First Nations cuisine in Old Quebec City. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of wild game meats, such as elk, bison, and venison, noting that dishes like the signature soup, the flambéed meats, and the maple pie are highlights of their visit. The restaurant features a warm, authentic atmosphere complemented by attentive and knowledgeable service that often adds a personal touch to the celebration of indigenous culture. While some visitors find the pricing reflects a premium experience and occasional service delays have occurred, the majority view it as an essential, high-quality dining destination for those seeking flavors deeply rooted in Canadian history.

We got complimentary breakfast with our stay at Hotel Louisbourg.

Food: ☕?
There is a set menu available for hotel guests:
- early bird (1 egg + 1 meat + hashbrown + 2 bread)
- crepe + maple syrup
- waffle + maple syrup
- omelette
- yogurt
All comes with fruit & free coffee/tea

The food was delicious! I got the'early bird'. The hashbrowns were nice & crispy. Bread was toasted & buttered. Fruit was sweet.

Service:💁🏻
Beware, it is very busy as there is only one waiter!

On both days of visiting (Thurs & Fri ~9 am), there was only one waiter. Thursday there was no wait, but Fri we waited 1 hour before getting food. Given how busy it is, the service did a good job managing all the tables with coffee refills.

Remember to tip if you can, even if the breakfast is'free, & props to them for managing the busy breakfast rush!

What a beautiful restaurant! Every aspect of dining there was amazing: the tasteful, aesthetic decor; the comfortable, spacious seating; & the attentive waitstaff. The food is authentic, based on Indigenous recipes, made from local & fresh ingredients, & perfectly prepared & presented. There are interesting, outstanding dishes on the menu to satisfy even the most sophisticated palates. It is a great place to learn about Indigenous culture today, as well as its rich history since long before European colonization.

Our first dinner in Quebec City & we had a great time. It was well prepared food that was authentic Quebec! Our waiter was nice & spent time explaining things to us. For appetizer we had Sagamite soup. We had seafood pasta & the walleye. All was fresh & delicious!!

The food here was great. We had the flambé deer & elk, which was perfect. The service was not as impressive as the food. The waiter seemed distracted & took a long time to take our orders. Still, I would be back for the food

We came here for an early dinner & ordered their signature multi-course meal with venison, elk, & bison on a teepee. Every course tasted great & was just the right portion. The soup came in a very clean tasting venison broth that balanced a meal that would otherwise be too heavy. I was surprised we finished everything except dessert. Our server was fantastic & the pacing of each course was perfect. I'm thankful our server suggested we share the dessert & take the other piece home for later-it was the maple pie & a perfect end to an all around great meal. I would come back if visiting again.
