About us

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Review Summary

Sagamité offers a unique and memorable culinary experience centered on traditional First Nations cuisine in Old Quebec City. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of wild game meats, such as elk, bison, and venison, noting that dishes like the signature soup, the flambéed meats, and the maple pie are highlights of their visit. The restaurant features a warm, authentic atmosphere complemented by attentive and knowledgeable service that often adds a personal touch to the celebration of indigenous culture. While some visitors find the pricing reflects a premium experience and occasional service delays have occurred, the majority view it as an essential, high-quality dining destination for those seeking flavors deeply rooted in Canadian history.

We came here for an early dinner & ordered their signature multi-course meal with venison, elk, & bison on a teepee. Every course tasted great & was just the right portion. The soup came in a very clean tasting venison broth that balanced a meal that would otherwise be too heavy. I was surprised we finished everything except dessert. Our server was fantastic & the pacing of each course was perfect. I'm thankful our server suggested we share the dessert & take the other piece home for later-it was the maple pie & a perfect end to an all around great meal. I would come back if visiting again.

The game meat was succulent & tasty, could use a bit more salt to my taste, but still very enjoyable. Having it with broccoli & other vegetables not native to Canada was a bit disssapointing, I expected something closer to what would be eaten by the indigenous people traditionally. Vegetables were cooked well nevertheless. The Sagamite three sister soup was flavourful.

Other than being a bit pricey, all the food was delicious. Everything-including the chicken & fries from the kids' menu, La Soupe Sagamité, La Potence from the Yatesta set menu, the potato dishes, & the meat pie-was not salty, had no off-putting odors, & tasted great. (I visited with my parents-in-law, who really dislike salty food.)
La Soupe Sagamité was fantastic with its delicious blend of beans, corn, & meat. The complimentary bread (which contained raisins & sunflower seeds) & the butter were also lovely. Although a few of the meat cuts were slightly tough, the accompanying sauces paired wonderfully & made them delicious!
I would love to visit again if I get the chance.

Incredibly flavorful food; unique indigenous menu; prices reflect the quality & craft of the food. We went here on a whim & were thrilled with our meal. I recommend trying the Sagamite soup as an appetizer. The meats of our main dishes were phenomenal & well paired with sauces & veggies. Highly recommend going here.

Greeted by totems of history & a real wood burning fireplace, the wild game meats served were the best cuts & flavours I have experienced so far within Canada.

First Nations cuisines at its finest. A cultural culinary experience everyone must try. Options for young diners & those who appreciate quality game from elk, venison, bison & more. You can find it all here. Every dish is presented with exquisite visual appeal & the flavours to follow are such a pleasure for the pallet.

We ordered the Gallows of the Three Plumes & were able to order & share both appetizers; Sagamité soup & warm duck salad. The maple pie was unexpectedly not too sweet & the perfect texture of a slightly crunchy crust with a custard like body.

Can't wait to come back to old Quebec City & try the rest of the menu.

This restaurant is bypassed by many people. The signage is very subtle & the menu in French appears a little daunting. But you walk in & you know it is a great choice, very intimate with a wonderful & helpful staff. I had the venison tartare & a superb soup. The fish dish my partner had was well presented & perfectly cooked Do This !!

Highly recommend this restaurant for an authentic taste of local cuisine. Everything was above & beyond! The Sagamite soup was absolutely delicious. There aren't many places I'd go back to, but this is definitely one of them.

We celebrated our anniversary there on a quiet weeknight. Everything was perfect: Sagamité soup, onion soup, short ribs, salmon & sugar pie. Will visit again when we are back in the area.
